I've seen these while surfing around. Has anyone actually tried one of these? I'm intersted but, have a hard time spending the cash without seeing or hearing one. Maybe one of you have tried one?

Why? Are the sounds of nature too much for you? Or not abrasive enough?

Actually I thought it might be nice to have it on our tandem for when we do laps around the lake. But thank you for you reply it was very helpful.

Bikes: Michelle Pfieffer, the Carbon Fiber Wonder Bike: A Kestrel 200 SCI Repainted in glorious mango; Old Paintless, A Litespeed Obed; The Bike With No Name: A Bianchi Eros; RegularBike: A Parkpre Comp Ltd rebuilt as a singlespeed.

My only personal experience of this setup was riding alongside a tandem that was equipped with it for a few miles. They were playing mp3's of 70s disco hits. It was kind of fun. The sound wasn't great from where I sat, but the couple on the tandem seemed to be enjoying it. Curiously, the had the speakers duct taped to the frame. I don't know why.

Worth the money? Probably. If I wanted take along tunes for my bike I'd drop $60 on it.

Of the many I've seen this is the best design so far. If I were looking for such a thing I'd nab one.

Whats wrong with just buying a walkman or two? At least that way not EVERYONE would have to listen to my Deftones as I'm tearing down the trail

Because one of the worst problems with the headphones is that you can't hear what's going on around you. If you're sharing the bike path, and someone's coming up from behind you and wanting to pass, and they're shouting that they're passing, how can you hear it? And what happens if you don't hear it and you decide to make that left hand turn, and you get into an accident? Or if your path crosses an intersection with cars, and you can't hear cars coming in the opposite direction. Etc, etc. etc.

I don't know how many near-accidents I've been in just because the other person was wearing headphones. I'd much rather have to deal with hearing someone's music then get into yet another near accident with some idiot wearing headphones that I have to scream obscenities at them... again.
