Nice, but why would you want to get rid of the grip shifts? Best mod I have made to my bikes is switching over from trigger shifters to grip shifts.

Bikes: Trek 830 circa 1993 and a Fuji WSD Finest 1.0 2006

I have grip shifters on my MTB from the last century and they give me blisters on long rides.

I like being able to go up or down as many gears as I want at one time with grip shifts. This is extremely helpful when coming around a blind curve and finding a steep short climb waiting for you. I also like not having to keep my thumb off of my grips all the time. Then on the front shifter I like being able to trim the derailleur to eliminate pretty much all of chain rub. I've had trigger shifters for years, I just switched to grip shifts the middle of last season. I hope I never have to go back to triggers.

Basicly........grip shifts are just awesome!!!

Bikes: 2007 Gary Fisher Piranha & ~ 1984 Ross Mt Whitney

Hi,Just got a Trek too last night.
Sort of anyway, a Gary Fisher Piranah.
My Current bike is a 23 year old chro-moly framed chrome finish Ross Mt Whitney, same price as the bike I just bought!
They're ordering a stem with a 25 degree rise instead of the stock 10 & the fender for the front since I'll be commuting to work some. Appearently SKS has a different fender for use with Manitou forks.
Also towards that end I picked up a rack. Discovered that I was about 1/4 inch short on clearance for the disc brake I emailed the manufacturer late last night. They said they were working on racks to go with them, but of course would not be available for a while. I packed the rack back up and was going to take it back, but will try to make a pair of brackets to move it foward a bit. (Really like the rack).

Anyway, Happy Treking
Bob

Congrats on your new Trek, lason. I really like my Trek as well, but I kept my Trek's original grip shifters just to keep costs down and I have since grown accustom to them. My only upgrades besides lights, pannier and rack was to upgrade the original "Z" chain to a Sram PC 68. The "Z" chain shows major wear after only a few hundred miles, and the Sram gets over 3500 and is still smoother than the "Z" at 350. I also upgraded the original seat to a more comfortable gel version.
Enjoy your new ride!
