Bike Shorts

I just got my first pair of bike shorts. They are the type that go under regular shorts, but whatever. My question is, does anyone see issue with hand washing them in shower during a post ride shower? Will normal soap ruin the chamois or anything like that? Or just wash them like that and hang 'em to dry?

Walking with bike shorts sure does feel odd. It feels like I'm wearing a diaper. On the other hand, riding for over two hours sure feel alot better.

You should have no problem taking them in the shower with you. By the time ordinary soap has any effect on them, you'll be ready for another pair anyway.

you can wash them like that, or in the washing machine. the machine doesn't do anything special. just don't use fabric softener because it does weird things to the lycra, and never put them in the dryer except maybe on no heat because it does weird things to the lycra. chamois is just soft leather that absorbs water. you can pretty much do whatever to it and it won't care.

Most modern shorts don't use chamois now but a substitute, so it shouldn't matter much what you use. On tour I tend to use shampoo for washing myself and my gear.
