My only gripe with Nashbar is the supposed "order total" is not true when checking out. I get an e-mail confirmation with again the same supposed "order total" only to find out when I check my credit card statement that Nashbar increased the total because of a "tax error."

When I called Nashbar & spoke with customer support I was told that the confirmation total on the website & e-mails are really ESTIMATES & not totals! Horse-hockey, they are the only site out of many that I purchase from that function in that manner. Sure the order is only increased by another buck or 2 but when it says order total at the confirmation page & e-mail it should be just that & not an estimate!

solveg 08-25-07 08:34 AM

Do they send you a "your order has shipped" email? I got a confirmation email of my order, but that was over a week ago. Are they slow shipping?

idcruiserman 08-25-07 10:05 AM

In my experience, if I want to get an item from Nashbar in less than 10 days, I have to order 2 day shipping .

v1k1ng1001 08-25-07 03:31 PM

Performance will probably absorb them.

The nice thing about their slowness is that it gives you ample time to cancel your order which I took advantage of last week.

I've been ordering more and more stuff through Biketiresdirect.com.

Send them an estimated payment.

Everybody knows Performance bought Nashbar out a couple of years ago, right? One company now, and Nashbar has deteriorated to Perf's level of satisfaction, for me. I've been a Nashbar shopper for more than 20 years, going back to when the catalogs were black-and-white drawings on newsprint. I always praised them for prices and fast delivery compared to Performance, but since the buyout there's almost no difference, and I'm WAY sick of being told things are on the way, then finding out they're backordered or have some other problem. I don't mess with them much anymore except for things that are on big-time clearance sale and that I don't need for a couple of weeks.

Do you guys use Colorado cyclist much?

stokessd 08-25-07 05:07 PM

They have been steadily going downhill since the newsprint days. They used to sell lugs and tubesets for frame building. It's also a real shame that they got rid of the store in the cleveland area. when they were closing it, I got a set of sidi titanium shoes for $10.

Prices are generally better elsewhere.

I recently placed an order through Nashbar and Universal Cycles on the same day last week.

I'm rather surprised that the Nashbar order is here, but the Universal Cycles one isn't. Standard shipping on both.

I've noticed that I can't find the "returned goods" section on Nashbar's website anymore. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

I've read about the days when they were a quality frame shop and less of a fashion outlet. But you're right, they're becoming more like Performance all the time...more Dura-Ace and Ultegra, and less of the equipment for us "regular" cyclists. And lot and lots and lots of clothes. They do still have some good frames (I ride one) but that's nothing like carrying tubes and lugs.

lickbike.com gets my bicycle bucks :) A very satisfied customer!

xkwox 08-26-07 07:21 PM

i always select 2nd day air. it is pretty cheap..

i have been a customer for years, but i noticed their stocky is iffy and pretty limited.

I was looking at their cranks for MTB's. they have about 15 at most

jenson usa has about 50.

i have been leaning towards jenson lately for all my parts. nashbar stock is limited, but i still use them for nutritional and cleaning products.

nashbar

Hi i would like to share my recent experience with nashbar and also pricepoint.

Nashbar is awesome, and so is pricepoint.
the nashbar universal wrench is the coolest invention ever! i used it like eight times today, i removed a cassete twice with it and my new sette chainwhip, which with my old tools was not physically possible(i spent hours trying) there cassetes look decent, the chains are made by kmc which makes shimano chains(i am almost possitive) the chain checker from sette is simple yet works so well(my chain is still good), and i got all of this plus two sets of brake pads, lock on grips, in all 9 items with two day shipping for under a hundred dollars.

mtnbk3000 08-31-07 05:36 PM

used the nashbar universal wrench for the bb also

JanMM 08-31-07 06:25 PM

They currently have tandem/recumbent chains by KMC. (cheap!!)
Rest assured, KMC does not make Shimano chains.

mtnbk3000 08-31-07 06:26 PM

i was told that by another member, and also the kmc chain and the shimano chains have the exact same markings on them

Urgh. It depends on where you are located. To ship to most countries they want a scan of both sides of your bank card and passport for their records. There is no way in hell I'm sending a scan of that info to an online retailer as the chances of it wandering off into the wrong hands are way too high. Quite frankly it's BS.

If you are in Europe try this place, I've had good luck with them and their shipping rates are very good. At the end of the day after shipping, customs, and VAT you'll end up paying about the same as Nashbar.

Too old a model for Sun's website, but Spocalc has the ERD for the 700c model at 612mm, 10mm less than that one's 622mm bead diameter, so I'm gong with 620mm (630mm-10mm). Bet the "tech guy" at Nashbar wouldn't be able to follow that one.

Ordered a pair Saturday std shipping. Guesses on when they arrive?

Put me down for Wednesday week...:D:roflmao:

I have been pretty fortunate the last couple go arounds with Nashbar. Performance has been the PITA, this time...

Nashbar Blows Goats They Tried To Rip Me Off Repeatedly

I Won't Go Into It But Let Just Say They Even Stole My Capslock

Why is Nashbar being so CHEAP?

Seriously, the 10% on $50 or more / 10% on $100 or more, I find sickening. Why are they being so cheap?

Everyone knows 10% coupon is the standard deal, it is ALWAYS available, all year round. I can't believe what cheapness they're exhibiting on this Xmas. What happened to the standard free shipping on no minimum.

Is Nashbar going down?

redtires 12-16-07 12:40 PM

Why do you think they should give you any discount at all? Why are YOU being so cheap? They already do good deals on lots of stuff. Not trying to be a jerk, just presenting an alternative view. By the way, if you want 10% off your whole order (no "...or more" limits) use coupon code W238, it's good until Jan. 7, 2008.

Air 12-16-07 12:45 PM

Actually they've dropped their prices on quite a few things I noticed.

crypticlineage 12-16-07 12:54 PM

Redtires: You and I both know that prices for most of these things are highly inflated already. All I am saying is they used to do these discounts and free shipping several times a year but now they're not willing to do it even on Christmas. I think thats cheap.

All I can say is welcome to capitalism my friend. Nashbar is certainly not the end all of online shopping though, I have found oodles of better deals on "name-brand" components and clothing just by doing some searching around online. I do better understand where your coming from in your original post however. I too remember when Nashbar was disgustingly cheap, like simply ridiculous. On the other hand, I used to be a service manager at one of the top Performance stores and am aware of how they market stuff. Nashbar makes most of their profit on small parts and clothing, and very little on components, frames and bikes. And, even though it's true that sites like bikeisland.com don't charge shipping, the selection is a fraction of what places like Nashbar, Performance, Price Point and the like stock. I also think that shipping is becoming more of a factor in bottom-line profitability with the increase in fuel costs. The fact that Fed-Ex is increasing their shipping costs in the neighborhood of 5% or so in January is an indication and will be a factor for mail-order businesses everywhere. I would not be surprised to see other big shipping business do the same. So, either big discounts on shipping go away, or unit price goes up to compensate.
