A Cabbage patch doll.. ( now in 3rd Halloween ..) .... |
A cabbage path doll. Oh man, I can still remember the TV reports of people crawling all over each other at the stores trying to get one for Christmas.

Lots of good stuff and $$ over the years, 1st thing that comes to mind is a Swiss Army knife. It lives in my tackle box now. Generally, will only stop for folding money or tools and haven't seen anything worth stopping for in years.

Yeah...pretty old, resurrected thread. I've found a lot of the stuff mentioned throughout the thread. But the one thing that I find way too much of (well, not find but 'see' too much of cause I don't keep it) is improperly disposed-of, discarded, bagged dog poop. EVERYWHERE! Every time I'm out. Not just on rides, but when I'm running too. In the streets, roads, sidewalks, parks, beach, and even in the woods along designated hiker/jogger trails. People...if you're too lazy to carry your dog's poop to properly dispose of it...just leave the exposed poop and don't bag it. I think it's less damaging to our environment. Dan |
This was at the side of the road, rolled down the hill about 20 or 30 ft (not obvious from the picture). The trees caught it before it went down a lot further. Must have been there for awhile:

I always found it amusing that these people think they are doing something good by taking the world's most biodegradable substance and wrapping it in the world's least biodegradable substance, and then they leave it at the side of the trail for what? The forest custodians to pick up?

I found my favorite Kershaw pocket knife on the road while riding one day.
|
A Samsung phone this morning. In the middle of a gravel road. Had been run over, only once or twice. Still working! Trying to locate the person who owns it at this time.
|
I bootied a carabiner the other day. I probably wouldn’t whip on it.
Porn Lots of soda bottles full of lemonade. Usually tastes pretty bad. We have a wild squash/goard that grows around here in the ditches. I brought one home to show my wife last summer. |
This still baffles me. When I was a kid, I found a brand new Daisy Red Ryder bb gun, complete with wood stock, lying in the middle of the path that joined our dead end court to the next street. I played with it for years and never heard of anyone losing it.
Since then, lets see, I was around 9 or 10, so roughly 60 years has gone by and I have not found another thing worth picking up. |

Porno mags Porno mags? Do you travel back in time and ride in the 1970s? ;) |
I found an expensive cell phone and was able to get my wife to track the owner down so we could return it. Him and his wife were driving the gravel road looking for it when I got near his house.
Also found a really nice set of crimping pliers for working with pex tubing. I've found a working 3 ton floor jack also. I had to go get the van for that. |

One day while leaving my neighborhood a workman's pickup trucked made a (legal) turn in front of me and I noticed something flying out of the back. I raced over to where it had landed, picked it up and raced after the truck trying to get his attention. He must have not seen or heard me and just kept driving. It was a small Kobalt (Lowe's brand) set of screwdriver heads with a handle to accept those heads. Not a really big set but extremely functional for the tasks I do at home. I still use it to this day. It's small, versatile and easy to carry around.

Stolen mail though I'm seeing more Amazon boxes that are ripped apart & tossed, sometime looks like stuff still inside. Guess it's not what the thieves were hoping for. I just contact LE & tell them where it's at.

On one recent ride into town I found a bungee cord in good shape ... then a little further on, another just like it, except the hooks were crushed.
More recently, I was walking the same route and found a 10mm combination wrench. I find more stuff when I'm walking. |
I have found all sorts of small stuff, tools etc. But my big find was a back pack on the trail in town that must have bounced off his carrier. It had a $1000 lap top and in it. I returned it and the guy said he would send me a reward, but he never did.
I also found wallet with over $2000 in it. Now that guy gave me a $50s reward. |
I may have mentioned it before. Maybe in another thread. But I found a working cell phone. Took some tome for me to figure out the owner. No on recognized the number from which I was dialing. I guess he had a lot of one way friendships. ;) Anyway he seemed pissed that I found it. I guess I should have left it where he lost it so he could find it himself. But woulf probably would have happened it would have been stolen or crushed.
I am always finding ID and money. Never take a reward. I ask people to pay irt forward. One man did insist on buying me lunc but it was more of a shoot the breeze type of thinkg since he also rides. Most of my tools I found on rides. It is really disturbing when I find car parts. There is a wheel on the side of the road on one of my rides. A wheel??? |
One of the more amusing things I've found (while running, not biking) was an orange box, practically in the sidewalk and very difficult to miss, with a child's handwriting on the top - "Geocache". I ran past it, but I'd say that it seemed to contain some crayons or other drawing supplies.
