I found a 16 year old piece of thread, but I didn't pick it up.

Last summer I saw some people looking at a pistol they'd found in the parking lot of a park I ride through. I'd never thought of that park being that dangerous before, but evidently, someone else did.

Back pack with a new Apple notebook computer. I returned it and guy said he was going to give me a reward, but never did.

Bungie cords from trucks
Drivers license
Money
Wallet
License plate

The drivers license and license plate I took in to the cops
The wallet I returned to the owner
The money I kept
The bungies I left.

I count the change that I see along the road while on my commute. Once it gets up to over a buck, I start to memorize the locations of the coins so that when I'm not rushed (or on some non-workday early morning ride) I can pick it up and have enough for an ice cream cone at the end of the ride...

Other than that; tools, CDs, sunglasses, hats, shoes...

A few years back I found 350 pennies along side the road. Last year I found 100 Yuan bill, a 10 dollar bill, a bunch of quarters, a wallet which was returned to the owner, an iphone which was returned to the owner, lots of tools, an aluminum measuring yard stick in the store packaging, a full 6 pack of Michelob Ultra, an old Schwinn mountain bike, a trash can, and other fun things. I often see baseballs and tennis balls, but leave them alone figuring a kid or a dog will come along shortly.

This fall I found a bag full of heavy metal clamps. Never seen ones like this before so I figure they a specific to a certain use, but have adapted nicely to my frame alignment device.

You, too??? What are the odds!

I have found a bar end rear light, sunglasses, money, car keys, inhaler, water bottles, I found all of these while riding my bike. I have found a couple of flashlights and 3/8" socket wrench and 10 mm socket while driving my car, the socket wrench was in the left turn lane at a light.

I have found so much stuff over the last 37 seasons that I rarely stop anymore unless it's something really interesting. I can only use so many hammers and 9/16" sockets. :D

One day while riding in San Francisco I found someone's heart.

High on a hill?

My running list is:

Cell phone. (owner called it and I get it back to her)
12 pack of beer
various tools
$5 bill
mini-pump (was a nice one and through bike social media got it back to owner)
Adult materials
One morning really early I discovered two homeless people sharing a sleeping bag (hint hint) Homeless sleeping on the trail is common just not in the same bag playing tiddlywinks

Animals so far:
Deer, turkey, fox, skunk, elk, racoon, wild boar, eagle, owl, beaver and all the other common critters about.

While I was bike touring I spent a few nights at the Bike Camp in Twin Bridges, Montana, which is a cyclists-only camping facility in the town park. One evening I was reading by the river when I heard a splash. Looked up to see a beaver crawl up on the riverbank. The name of the river....wait for it....the Beaverhead River. Back in 2000, while also touring in Montana, a badger ran across the road while I was climbing...wait for it...Badger Pass heading to Dillon.

I posted a while back about the strangest thing I've ever found by the road.

https://www.bikeforums.net/general-c...ther-lode.html

About the only people that use this road are a dozen or so ranchers and the occasional cyclist or birdwatcher.

I can believe this thread has not gone there yet...:bike:

Latest update to road finds: Today found an open end 13mm wrench. Mac wrench. Really nice wrench!

I recently found a Glock 9. Full clip and chambered with hollow point rounds. Didn't linger around the site long. Gingerly put in my bag, pedaled home and called the sheriff. A deputy showed up soon and took custody. Didn't show up as stolen. No clue what finally happened to it.

I once saw a colorful object and stopped to examine it. It was a 24" well used bamboo bong all set up ready to go! :) I left it be and we joked for the reminder of the ride about how it got there.

Jax Rhapsody 01-18-19 07:16 PM

Years ago I found a 110 or whatever piece socket set that I kept. Three or four iphones that netted me $20 a piece bounty. Found a big ass flathead screwdriver I couldn't he bothered to carry with me, so I tossed it in some bushes for tge trip home and forgot about it. Just recently I found a tool bag with a drill, drill bits, drivers, charger and screws. I found a large blutooth speaker like those round mentos looking ones cell phone stores sold, and it was charged. There's other stuff, Entertainment center, tag-along bike, d&d game books, beer...

The only problem is that they appear to be almost all hip hop, which is not my kind of music. I'm hoping I can sell them at a used book or music store. If I can get a couple bucks apiece for them, it might pay for some bike stuff.

Anyone else find anything valuable along the side of the road while riding?

That's why they threw them out!!

avole 01-19-19 07:23 AM

Time does move on. CDs and DVDs are worthless now.

Lemond1985 01-19-19 07:29 AM

... once the digital content is extracted from them, assuming of course it's even worth extracting.

TiHabanero 01-19-19 10:20 AM

For those of you holding on to worthless music CD's, I will happily take them off your hands. Just let me know you desire to rid yourself of the worthless things and I will get my mailing addy to you.

new2olbikes 01-19-19 11:27 PM

I've found sun glasses, wrenches, flat-fix tire cans but mostly I need to find my way home, I can't afford another flat on such a hot sunny day.
