Man drowns self in cesspool over missing bike

DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - A Tanzanian who thought his boss's bicycle had been stolen while in his care killed himself by diving into a cesspit -- only for a friend to return the bike a little later, a newspaper said Thursday.

Samuel Boniface, 20, committed suicide Tuesday after telling his employer the bicycle had gone missing, police in Dar es Salaam told the Daily Times.

Shortly after his body was found floating in the cesspool, his friend returned the bicycle, saying he had borrowed it.

Reminds me of the old joke about the man drowning in the cesspool: He didn't know how to swim, but he went through all the motions.

...An interesting foreign flick for those who like foreign (to the US) flicks is a movie in (Mandarin) Chinese with english subtitles called "Beijing Bicycle":

Amazon link here

About a young man who goes to Beijing from a rural town to become a bike messenger and has his bike stolen. A story about his travels and people he meets while trying to recover his bike which he needs for his job (and he is working to pay off cause technically the bike is owned by the messenger company). Pretty cute story if you like foreign films and you can spot a guy with an old Mercantine Uno jersey in it too.

Not as severe as this guy's actions though!

Sad.......this reminds me of a story several years back about a Japanese cargo liner captain who committed harakiri because several Subaru automobiles sustained water damge due to stormy seas.
