It is just easier to change the laws of men than to change themselves to follow the laws of their god. This is a weakness that prevents them from being righteous. How do you fix this weaknwss? You fix it by removing the temptation to covet or perform the harder task of not coveting.

+1! Also, Didn't the Untied Nations resurrect an ancient nation just for the Post WW2 Jews, pissing off and dispossessing the local inhabitants, giving us the frucked up Mideast that we have today? If they want to go someplace "pure" then go to the home that the UN gave them! I'm just waiting for the UN to resurrect the Roman Empire while they are at it.

My friend, I'm Jewish, and I'm sure many others here are, too. I don't sympathize with the complaints from those folks in Brooklyn. It's difficult when cultures clash, for sure, but I don't feel they have any right to impose their own rules on the rest of society, especially in a public space.
However, you've gone way too far, and I'd really appreciate it if you didn't speak of all Jews and Israel so disrespectfully. I don't speak for all Jews, and neither does anyone else. As an individual, I disagree with many Israeli policies, but it is currently a sovereign nation and should be viewed as such.

My point is that I hope we can all speak to each other with respect. I don't think it's too much to ask. That was an unjustified slam against Jews and Israel.

This thread is sounding like it should be moved to P&R. Let's steer it back toward bicycles or it's outta here.

Your wording could have been clearer, in that case. You used the term post WW2 Jews. That includes all living Jews.

Having a different dress standard for oneself is completely fine. Having a different dress standard for people who pass through public streets of your neighbourhood is firmly into nutjobery territory.

You do??! I must be Muslim!
Actually France has outlawed the Burqua and the veil - in Public. Period. Reason given: We don't force our women to dress a certain way. So you can't either.

From the article: "Leaders of South Williamsburg's Hasidic community said yesterday that bike lanes that bring scantily clad cyclists - especially sexy women - peddling through their neighborhood are definitely not kosher."
What exactly are the women accused of "peddling" (i.e. selling)? I expect to see the confusion between 'peddle' and 'pedal' in forum posts, but I'm a little surprised to see it in a newspaper article, even if it is the New York Post instead of the Times.

The article never identified who was a leader of what group, other than one person who is a member of the Community Board (a public, secular position). For all we know, this could just be some outspoken private individuals expressing their opinion in a public forum, as is their right, with no indication of what the actual religious leaders are doing.
For what it's worth, the largest sect in Williamsburg is the Satmar sect, a group that doesn't even approve of the state of Israel (believing they need to wait for the Messiah before establishing a government in Israel). Their reputation is separatist, even from other Jewish groups, which raises my suspicions of the article, but I suppose they may be taking a more active role in local government these days.
In any event, the desire to impose your rules on other people comes in all flavors, not just religious.
