I didn't understand any of that post up until broken thumb/wrist. Owch.

I munched my toe on the coffee table last Saturday, it's lovely colours and the toenail is gonna fall off. The pain of that was incredibly bad, I had to take naproxen.

Bikes: Surly LHT set up for commuting

Went end over end (sideways) down a 40ft drop-off into about 1ft of water on the C&O canal. Not a single scratch but I was unable to even stand up due to the adrenalin rush. Friends had to throw down a snickers bar and some water for me so I could stand up and climb back up further downstream. Aside from that, just a lot of scraped up knees jumping my 3-speed on a gravel driveway as a kid.

Other: Brain tumor, still have to take meds due to pituitary issues.

Bikes: '99 Trek 8000, '08 Giant Trance X2

Cycling: Flew over the bars when my front tire sunk into some mushy grass against a curb. Badly separated right shoulder, broke the 5th metacarpal in my right hand, and a slightly dented helmed (instead of a slightly dented head!) Still have shoulder issues, and some minor hand issues. Didn't even realize the hand was broken until a week later. By then it had started to mend of course, and to fully straighten the bone they'd have had to break it again. I decided not to bother.

Non-cycling: Hmm... nothing other than the odd scrape or sprained ankle, I think.

my worst injuries happened on a bike........well falling off a bike. back in junior high, I had an old *** 10spd road bike that didnt shift. there towards the end the chain would pop off from time to time, think the derailers were slipping, dunno. anyhow, I stood up to give it some power, chain popped off and down I went into the gravel. Tore the skin off my right knee cap, could see a 50cent piece size of bone (knee cap) and I was digging gravel out of the other knee for the next week. That injury still haunts me every day of my life.

the 2nd worse was bout 2 yrs ago. out with some friends on a paved trail. Came up on a curve near a concrete "bridge" (dunno exactly what its called) which water flows over it in the spring. well there was moss, mud and gravel all over the place and I came into the turn waaay too fast. lost my balance, almost recovered but then the rear wheel slipped out and down I went on my forehead. I sat there for a minute, got up and rode the mile + back to the beginning. swelled shut eye, softball size knott and alot of pain later, I now have a new "birth mark" on my head. really its barely visible except when I get tanned and it kinda looks like a birth mark.

cycling: broken thumb from cx race crash

non-cycling: about 9-10yo, fell at a house construction site and cut my leg really bad, needed stitches, but got by with bandaids holding it together for a few weeks. really messed my summer up for swimming....

Car hit me from behind on a country road. Could hear the spokes break like a musical instrument as I headed into the pavement. This was over thirty five years ago (I was 15) before helmets. I got away with only a broken wrist.

Non-cycling: a broken collarbone when my classmates decided to gain wrestle me in grade 10. They basically treated me like a wishbone. A year after that, a guy who participated in the wrestle-mania poked me in the eye with a pencil. Got back at him by making out with his girlfriend in grade 12. I had very rough but fun high school years.

cycling: road rash over 20% of body, 15 stitches in knee, 12 in head. still have grit in my face (couldn't be removed safely). all different crashes
in-line skating: broken thumb, fractured ankle (same crash).
work: drill bit through hand, fibreglass fibre wrapped around eyeball.
misc: fell about 20 feet out of a tree, wrecked my hips. had a tree fall on me, arm was sore for a few weeks. total of more than 75 stitches (more if I bothered to go to hopsital every time).

"fibreglass fibre wrapped around eyeball"

holey **** that almost made me want to puke! thats some nasty nasty stuff! those darn fibers can work there way into anything, inlcuding long sleeve shirts! I was doin some field measurments in a roofing plant and somehow the fibers got inside my shirt. so for the entire day it felt like my shirt was lined with razor blades!

Bikes: Trek 750

Cycling: Riding the Central Park West Drive, downhill, going 23-24 mph. Young kid bladder going against traffic flow... long as he kept straight no problem... but at the last minute he turns right into me blowing me off the bike. Hit the road, I'm convinced I'm paralyzed, I see my hand in front of me, but they don't move. Then get senses back, ambulance comes, they check me out, mostly sore and a bunch of road rash. Get home, sharp pain down each butt.... yup, damaged sciatic nerve, was curled up on my side for a week... every few years I manage to twist in the wrong direction and am in pain for 4-5 days.

Non-Cycling: Doozie, I get home on a Sunday from 2 glorious weeks skiing Alta/Snowbird. 'round midnight I get bad indesgestion... doesn't go away, call my health plan's emergency number, yup, MI. Now have only about 1/2 of the heart muscle pumping for me, plus meds that limit max heart rate to around 140.

The sorta good part is that was in 89 (wuz 41)... and I have had NO heart incidents since.
