How does seat posts quick release work?

- I have a bicycle with a seat tube that has the slit located on the REAR of the seat tube (slit facing rear wheel).

- I have another bicycle with a seat tube that has the slit located in the FRONT of the seat tube (slit facing top tube).

I took off the quick release clamps off both bikes. Now, I don't know which way to put it back on. Do the bolts go where the slit is?

Does it matter?

It does matter. It's easier for the mechanical action to take place at the point of least resistance, the slit.

I do not actually see one in your pictures but a quick release for the seatpost would work in the same manner as the ones on your wheels. now I agree wanderer that the BOLT on your seatpost clamp should go where the slot in your seat tube is.

The slot in the seat tube and the slot in the clamp go together...period.

So.....my question remains.

Does it matter which direction the bolt is?
It doesn't matter, the quick release serves double duties,to tighten the bolt enough to engage the cam action to lock in place.doesn't need to be aligned with the slit, the
clamping force is the same.
