paint protection and cable rub.....
on many of the bikes i have built i typically get them powder coated white / black / blue and to solve my issues of cable rub ill buy some electrical tape and put a piece where the cable contacts the frame. It works great and you cant really even tell it is on there.
My next build i want to do in a celeste or a creamy toothpaste green. Any ideas if they make a celeste electrical tape or somthing simular? I could use black but that would look ugly fast.
Just looking for ideas i guess.

Until recently, I used ski protector tape. Worked well, but some areas had to be reapplied every year.
Last year I put 3M #5430 UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) polyethylene tape on my new mountain bike. It's much thicker and more durable, but the color show-through is not quite as good.
I had no wear-throughs or even marks from cable rub.

interesting. Thanks. Ill check out the 3m stuff. The electrical tape i was using was from them. I would also wrap my chain stay in the stuff to keep the chain slap from nicking it up. YOu can barely tell it is on there. It is very nice and easy to replace as well.
I used to have some 20 year old ski protection tape around here somewhere. I tried to find more a few months back online and couldnt find the stuff. No idea why...you would think just about any sports store would sell it. THat stuff is pretty thick and almost a poly tape from what i remember. It was thicker than normal 3m style book tape and that stuff was pretty good especially if you layered it.

The bike shop that built up my new bike used a patch of clear adhesive something or other on the head tube to keep the cables from rubbing. You can't even tell it's there unless you're looking for it.

Velcro soft/female strip or dots. I have a white road bike and a black mountain bike and the velcro soft or hairy part works great. I buy them at The Dollar Store. And you can trim them also. They work great.

Screen savers for cell phones, IPOD's, etc. Tought as nails, easy on, easy off. Buy them in your local office supply store. Cut to the size you want.

I use helicopter tape. If you live near a local airport, the mechanics know what that is. Its adhesive and clear plastic that won't yellow. Its removable because the adhesive is removable. Its thick so it will withstand the cable rub. Just go to the local airport and ask a mechanic for a sheet and pay him ten bucks. That sheet will last a long time.
By the way, I use that same helicopter tape on my Gamin Edge 305. That way any moisture from my sweat doesn't get on it. I also use it on my cell phone to keep the screen from getting scratched up. Once I made the mistake of carrying the Garmin in my pocket and the glass cracked because of the keys.
Felt bikes are from my neck of the woods, Lake Forest, CA. A while back at a grand opening of a bike shop, Felt reps were there and they use a rubber sleeve where the cable touches the head tube. Its a soft rubber. But its one color, black. That might not work unless the cable housing is the same color.

Double-stick carpet tape, the outer side layered with clear packing tape. Looks like white carbon fiber.... Just make sure the packing tape is the good thick 3M stuff. Cheap crap is cheap crap, and will become brittle by end of summer.
