Messenger bag w/ a broken collarbone?
Ok this is a wierd question, but I'm wonder if anyone has tried this. I obviously can't use a backpack due the broken left collarbone, but I am starting school in about 2wks and will need a bag. I was going to order a Jandd messenger bag before school but I am concerned it may hurt even if I sling it over my right shoulder, as stressing my right shoulder sometimes hurts the broken left. I will be at about 2-3wks recovery when school starts. Need something to carry the books at least the first couple of weeks so I'm open to suggestions.

See if you can find or borrow a business briefcase 'till your
collar bone heals. These can be carried like a suitcase and
strapped to you bike for transport. Some of these cases even
have wheels to help with the weight.

As to whether the messenger bag over your shoulder is safe, don't do it on our advice. Ask the doctor who treated you. The doctor is the only person who should tell you when that will be OK.

Ouch. [face is all scrunched up saying this]
Yeah, I agree, get a rack and bungee cords. That's what I do every day cause my messenger bag kept sliding down in front of me. Now it's clamped down on the rack.

Well actually I won't be riding for awhile either... putting any pressure on the arm is pretty excruciating--even in 2wks I don't think I will be quite up to the 10mi commute. Too bad too... I was really looking forward to riding to class on the first day. I think I might try the briefcase idea... see if Dad has an old one I can borrow for awhile. When I do ride back I might throw a rack on the back and strap the bag, I kinda like that idea.
