Obsession......yes
I bought a new bike today.
Normally this would not be such an odd statement. However, I bought an Origin8 Uno from my LBS, immediately removed the the pedals and the brakes, and drove it to my office where it will hang on the wall as a piece of art.
I know that Origin8 has a sketchy reputation, but this is without a doubt the sexiest looking bike I have seen in a long time and is going to look fantastic hanging up.

It IS a gorgeous bike. My local LBS had one about 6 months ago and I almost bought it for the looks alone. It belonged to one of the guys in the shop and he sold it to someone else while I was in the lot test driving it. The guy came running in the shop - "I love that bike I have to have it!!!!!" and bought it literally out from under me.

Here are some pics I took at home before I took it to the office. I will take office pics after I hang it.

**********?
I have two daughters in college in the Fall. I have trouble buying a bicycle chain without much consternation. The idea of buying a new bicycle is totally foreign to my thinking. Buying a new bicycle to HANG AS WALL ART is a concept from another universe. At least, to me it is.

In my opinion, art is everywhere. Whatever you love to look at becomes art. Do you have any paintings or photographs hanging in your house? Art is expensive. Frames are expensive.
People spend thousands of dollars on artwork. I am a map freak and there are reproductions of old maps that cost hundreds or even thousands.....and those are repros. I was able to get this bike for $300. The way I see it, I have a $300 sculpture to hang on the wall now.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, but the good camera is at home. These are with my iPhone.

That bike is definitely a work of art.
The building facilities people at your workplace must be laid-back. That would never be allowed at my office, they'd be afraid it would fall down if we had an earthquake.

I am totally with you, but, uh, I think you need to raise it about three inches in the back, and level it up a little. Maybe move it 4 inches to the right. It will look even better. Maybe contrive some brackets hidden behind it, and get rid of the cables. The bike has way to clean a look to spoil it with the hanging hardware.
No, really, whatever looks good to you, it's your office. But, uh, you do need to move the lights around now, too, to show it properly.
I've often considered buying a Gibson Flying Vee for my wall, and I don't play guitar, at all. One of those would look good with the bike.

cool idea, might do away with the cables its hanging from & use maybe a small custom looking mantle or couple of hardwood arms with a nice finish on them to place it on, might look more elegant that way.

I tried that. I even still have the beautiful shelf laying under my desk. Unfortunately, the walls in my office building were build in the 70's as some sort of "easily movable" partition system. The idea was that you could change the layout of an office suite without reframing and drywalling the walls. The side effect is that the walls are very cheaply built and without opening the entire wall and installing some blocking, there is no way to mount a shelf on that wall.....Boo........

I think its fine. When I was single and lived in an apartment, I hung my bikes on the wall for looks and storage.
