Sizing Ergon grips?
I was checking out the Ergon GP 1's at the bike shop today and liked them.....a lot! Problem was though, I couldn't decide between the Large and Small. Both felt good to me....but I'm sure, if I could try each out for a few minutes, the best size would be obvious. Unfortunately, I'll have to take a gamble.
For the Ergon users here, what size are your hands and what size grips did you choose and why? Is there a general guideline in picking a size?
For references sake, my hands are many times in between L and M glove sizes. On some gloves a medium feels best and others a large.
I'm just cycling in the suburbs for exercise and commuting....may do some shorter touring. My bike's a hybrid. Thoughts?

Depending on the maker, I use either a medium or large glove. In cycling gloves, I've needed large with both Pearl and REI brands. My Ergon grips are size small, which is perfect for me.
You're back where you started, more or less. Whatever works best for you, and as you note, you're not going to know for a while. Reviews do note that unless you have hands like a catcher's mitt, you are probably better off with small. I'll add my own experience - I tried the Ergons with the built in bar stabilizers. I did not like them at all. In fact, I cut down the Ergons with a hacksaw and added Cane Creek bar ends. Gets expensive, but it works well for me.

My hands are medium (slim but not short) and I prefer the larger size. The extra wide platform is what makes these grips so comfortable, and the large size will offer more support. I'd only recommend the small for people with short fingers, as they may have trouble getting a good grip around the large.
As long as you can easily wrap your fingers around the large, I don't see how you could go wrong with them.

I just got a GC3, .. from flyer inside .. 2 lengths, 105 for grip shift, standard 140..
thats how much bar they occupy ..
GC3 longer bar end, GR2 , and others are shorter..
1 bolt sets the position for both, integrated but separate adjustments.
On the bars with grip shift I felt cramped , Bike Friday, 3 pc. straight bar.
but when I put the short ones on my Brompton.
they seemed made for the site. .. but longer bar end,
keeps the folded down bars from latching,
So plan be is mix and match.. GR2 standard grip, on the gripshift bars
put the shorter bar end on the other bike .

I have the Ergon GC3's, and I'm a woman. I struggled with which size to get too. I mistakenly was thinking the size difference was in the width of the grip. Luckily I searched on the Ergon website and found some very helpful information and I will insert the link here ---- Once you open up this link to their catalog, scroll down to page 18 and on the bottom half of page 18 it says "The Size Difference". There it explains that the difference between the small and the large is the diameter of the grip and shows a picture of the difference. The small is 92mm in diameter, the large is 102 mm in diameter. Hope this helps:

I like the smalls better for my hands.

The local shop ordered the smalls and based on feel between them and the larges, I went for the smalls. They work every bit as well as I had hoped/imagined. Left them slightly loose for the test ride for easy/quick adjustment and had them to my liking right away. I'm a cheap sucker but have absolutely no problem what so ever that these things were as pricey as they were. Well worth the money for me.
Thanks again for the assistance.
