Pant Leg Protector
I didn't have any rubber bands at my desk, and I didn't want chain grease all over my pant legs, so I found the next best solution for my lunchtime ride....

I love me some binder clips. use them for all sorts of (non-binder) things.

I've used small bungies, rubber bands, and tucked my pant leg into my sock. I haven't seen the binder clip method before, but that works too.

The linked pant clips are nice, but too bulky for me. I just got some elastic velcro loops and regular velcro hooks with a loop-loc and made some small adjustable pant protections straps.

Back in the olden days, they made chrome spring steel cuffs that you slipped around your pant leg. No heavier than a toe clip, easy on-off. I have no idea what happened to them or if they're made anymore.

I've been using these clips to hold up my curtains. Pretty classy.
On the bike i just roll up my pant leg. It also gives you some air-conditioning.

Those look a little more deluxe than the ones I remember. They look like they may clasp together or something. The ones I was thinking of don't - they just use the spring tension of the steel to grip the leg. Kind of like a thin, thin horse shoe shape that you spread open to get around your leg, then it springs back to its original shape to hold on.

I use them for chip clips. Or to keep closed the bag of fruit and nut mix I keep at work for post commute hunger.

That's what I used when it was too cool for shorts. They worked better on synthetics if they were covered with a length of surgical rubber tubing. Later, I got a Planet Bike Super Flash. They included an elastic band velcro band that's even better. Better for me, anyway.
