Aero bar brakes AND normal drop lever brakes? Possible?

Hi all,

I currently ride an old Peugeot Tour 10. It's used alternately for city commuting and longer 50mile+ rides in the countryside at weekends. It currently features some 80s Weinmann levers on the drops with the so-called 'suicide levers' as well.

I was hoping to purchase some cheap aero bars to see how I enjoyed the position as well as brake levers to go in the ends of them but I am unsure as to how I would go about connecting the levers to my dual pivots? The obvious way would be to just run two cables into the calliper but I can imagine that's probably not the safest idea.

Searching on here and Google has yielded few results so anyone's experience would be greatly appreciated.

QBP , and Jtech has cable combining pieces for triathalon racers,
But, they are not cheap.
The market segment served, is Tri Racers willing to spend what it takes,
to lower their bike section times.

Bikes: 2000-something 3 speed commuter, 1990-something Raleigh Scorpion

Sheldon Brown (as usual) did this with cantilever brakes by replacing the clamp bolt with an adjusting barrel. A long cable then went from one lever, through the brake and to the other lever. Pulling either brake lever operates the brake. You might be able to do something similar with your dual pivot calipers. An alternative might be inline interrupter levers meant for the top of drop bars. You could mount them on the aero bars.

God bless Sheldon. You don't have a link do you? I had a search and couldn't find it. If I find I'll post in case others are after this (curious) setup.

I used to use some Cane Creek Crosstops on my old racer which lacked the suicide bars. If these are what you're referring to I think cabling to the aero levers from the drops would probably be tricky and unsightly. I'm assuming that if I ran the cabling from the drops up the aero's, through the crosstops and back down it wouldn't work very effectively... hmm.

This is Sheldon's 63-speed 'OTB' which I think became more of a technical exercise than anything else. The part about the dual control brake is at the bottom.

given Scott used a cable out the top road lever, backwards, ,
with the cable ball in the top, and housing out the bottom,
I suppose you could use something like it ...
like an interruptor lever.. split the housing run in the top and out the bottom ,
with the cable end in the BMX, or a reverse lever,
on the aero bars, running straight thru..

all that housing run decidedly un Aero, but if you can get over that ,
its a cheaper bit of kit.

Thanks all for the help. It turns out my lady secretly ordered me the parts and, having installed them I'm very satisfied. As a result I shall eventually splash out on one of the cable splitters people have mentioned, keeping my eye out for cheaper alternatives along the way.
