accident
Had my first major accident after 20 some years of serious riding. Was on a bike trail on a wooden bridge. The bike just went out from underneath me. The pavement was wet, although I frequently ride on this trail when it is wet. A guy I was riding with, when I fell, tapped his brakes to begin stopping. He, too, fell. I hurt myself more--shoulder and upper leg swelling and pain. I hope the shoulder is going to be all right. X-rays showed no bones broken. The guy I was riding with said that the area where we fell was like ice. What could have caused this? don't think I will be back on the bike for a while. Don't want others to experience what I did.

Experience mountain bike riding in the woods (single track) has taught me that wet wood (logs, tree roots, erosion control beams) is bad. No matter what kind of tire tread (haven't ridden MTB with studded tires, obviously).
Similar to riding on ice, you have to keep it straight, refrain from pedaling, and balance perfectly to cost across. One false move...WHAM!

Snapped a bbq stake into my palm last night so im off riding for at least 3 weeks I feel ya pal. 5 hours in the er, a tetanus shot and hand glued for free though, yay Canada.

In the U.S. your bill would be so expensive that you'd have to mortgage your home, fall deep into debt...your wife would leave you and take the kids...you'd be paying alimony on top of the mortgage and hospital bills...end up huffing spray paint from a dumpster behind Home Depot. After a while your arms, legs, fingers will have a nice covering of scars from the bike no longer wanting you on it. It does make for some cool stories shared over an adult beverage,
