Combination U-lock or keyed U-lock?
I've been shopping online for U-locks, but I keep reading complaints about the keys breaking in the locks or the key interface rusting or whatnot, even on the more expensive models. I'm not even sure what I'd do if i couldn't disengage my U-lock from a public bike rack -- even if I had a hacksaw or bolt cutters on me, it'd look like I was stealing somebody's bike.
Would a combination U-lock be more mechanically reliable? Have you owned both combination U-locks and keyed U-locks, and if so, which did you prefer?
Caveat: My bike cost $430, so I guess there's a sane limit to how much I should spend on a lock. Unless it comes with a warranty against theft, in which case I guess I'm covered....
