Trek Hate?

OK properly been talked about before but can't hurt to cover it again and get fresh opions on the matter.

What's with the precived hate against them, I'm not saying its there but there are a lot of comments I'm mainly the 41 but genraly in this fourm of negativity towards them.

IMO in my limited knowledge they seem to make great bikes, I know many in my club ride them and one member of my club works in a shop that sells about 70% trek and seems enthusiast about it, and from both there have been no complaints that I personly have heard. Yes they can be a bit pricy and you could likely get better value going with a smaller brand but its not bad and on opar with spesh.

Its also one of the top three (I think) in terms of sales? So that in itself says something? I get the impression on the fourm that they are not for real cyclists? WTF is that about? Were as the real world scenario is that they are one of the most popular brands going and neck and neck with spesh and with cannondale & crevlo not far behind.

I'm based in the UK and I'd say my club has a very wide selection of brands but one of the most comment is trek and crevlo with a bit of spesh.

The only problem I can personly see is that they are very big like HTC and Apple in the phone market. And people like things that are more nich when it comes to bikes.

In my club a few meridas are popping up due to there good value and a member being a dealer for them.

Also not had any complaints about there customer service and with inotive projects like the ONE project (who honestly doesn't want a personly paint scheme on a bike?) I think on paper and from my limited experience they seem to be a ticking all the boxes for a go to company!

Others views will differ, pesonly unless a lot of horror story's pop up I will likely be getting a madone / domane 2.3 or 3.?? In the new year or many a caad, we shall see.

DISSCUS / DEBATE / INFORM.

Please only post if you have experience with the company and not just what you have heard on the fourm/internet Bull sh** as that's the point of the Q.

What annoys me is all the "Why do people hate Trek?" threads.

Which I doubt by there sales figures just wanted an answer, other than the standard

Cos hey asspolde at 400w which I can presume is 99.9 a joke.

I lost all respect for Trek when they fired Greg LeMond after he accused Lance Armstrong of doping.

At last a real answer, and why did I not post all my comments I'm one reply DUH!

Although personal and not about the bikes they currently produce as such its as good enough reason as any to switch brands if he is a person / hero / role model you respect.

Personly I don't give a fig as I only took it up this year and don't know a ton a out him, but know the name and that he was a good American racer.

Obviously it's easier for you to read than type. Why not do some reading of the forum before starting a senseless thread that's beat to death every few months? Additionally, I think you'll find that if you will not take the time to spell and type correctly, others will not take the time to answer you constructively.

Trek ships bikes to the LBS on Credit,so they sell before they have to be paid for,
and the business keeps it's doors open and several people have Jobs.

including me , though at 65, I get laid off in the winter , the 30 year olds stay on.

My wife and I ride Treks and I haven't noticed an unusual amount of "Trek hate". There's always someone who doesn't like a particular brand for whatever reason, if somebody doesn't like my Trek that's fine. I like it and that's all I need to know, it has served me well for 16 years and I have no reason to believe I won't get at least another 16 out of it, same for the wife's.

OOOooo! A grammar thread! Please don't ignore me, I'm more of a Grammar Progressive.

AnthonyM, you corrected the other Anthony's lowercase "i" to "I" but corrected the original "typos" to "typo's." We call that the greengrocer's apostrophe.

The original "typos" was correct since it was plural, not possessive. You have it right in your sig....

I'm going back to C&V now where there's lots of love for Trek.

With the brand's history / onetime popularity as a homegrown American brand, I don't understand why there would be any hate. We love euro brands for their history, and I think Trek has its (no apostrophe) own cool history worthy of at least a little veneration.

Right off to read, clearly should have spent more time looking firsts, lesson learned, and haha thats what happens when a guy who can not spell trys to correct grammar haha!

Will try to slow dow and make less mistakes I thnk, but generally I care more about the subject than the spelling and grammar after all it is not an English fourm.

Might as we lock / del thi thread mods.

The to those who answered the Q though.

I have a Trek hardtail that I love. After 4 years, it's hardy had a problem. And I log a lot of miles. My wife also has a Trek comfort bike. She loves it.

I do think that when you get to a certain price range, they become less competitive.

One would think.

My take is that it's some combination of their ubiquity, outsourcing their frame construction, their mistreatment of LeMond in favor of that other guy, and possibly other factors. I don't have a horse in this race, so it's actually kind of amusing to watch these threads play out in the 41.

Actually you could match all the why I hate (newer) Treks with the why I love older, vintage Treks. The vintage steel bikes from the 80s get a lot of love on this site. But they were made in the USA, LeMond was still in his racing prime, and their prices were reasonable. I wouldn't mind a new Trek 520 touring bike, though. I like the white frame and blue decals.

That pewter color on the old ones was pretty fetching, too.

I'm one of the lucky that still owns a LeMond! LOL

I think alot of the hate is because of Lance Armstrong. People no longer want to be associated with a bicycle company that sponsored him. Quite frankly, I don't like the color of their bikes in general because they are often in black or grey. Knock on wood, I was going to buy a Trek this year because it was in sky blue, my favorite color.

Since there are so many Treks on the street, they lost alot of their bling.

This would be what I understand as the so called "Trek Tax".

They make a decent product, but if you look around, you'll likely find comparable products for less money. I think that this is due in part to how much they spend on advertising.

Wouldnt it just be better to not buy a certain brand of bike if you dont like it or the company.

Unless there is a giant safety flaw that needs to be talked about, bad mouthing a specific brand only hurts the workers.
