Future Bike....
A new way to think about, and build, bikes.........
This "future bike" just won a competition to be mass manufactured. [VIDEO]

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter
IMO nothing so special. It has some interesting ideas, but nothing revolutionary unless there's something unique in the e-drive system.
Like with all bikes factors like weight and price will play big, as will identification of the specific market niche. Ultimately the market will decide.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.
I'm thinking the "marketing" will decide.
Identifying a market niche, developing either a dealer network or equivalent distribution system and being able to produce and sell it at a profitable price might prove to be more challenging than the design.

Unless they start using commonly available parts, it is going to fit a very small niche. Some innovative ideas, but unless it is priced at a few hundred bucks, it will likely not go too far. Wonder when the whole electric bike thing is going to catch the eye of local govs...

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.
Agreed, nothing revolutionary; but then, on something as old as "the bicycle" it is unlikely that there will be. There are a lot of little touches that, while in them selves, do not make a new product, it looks like it goes together quite well. It looks like a cleanly put together urban bike, not something that is targeted at the, well saturated, sports crowd.
As others have said, a lot depends on marketing. I do not mean that in a negative way. I mean that along with the product, they need to promote it well, at a good price, and make sure it is available where people who want an urban bike can obtain it.
It would be interesting to see some mainstream marketing of cycling; but, no matter what happens with this bike, it looks sound.

I like the idea of using the handlebars as a lock but I would not be able to use my bike computer as it's wired and mounted on my handlebar.
