Max Flite vs. Regular Flite etc.
Hi guys. Saw your discussion on saddles over there in the picture thread. How big a diff. is the max flite from the regular flite? How 'bout the flite trans am? I'm in the process of getting a enw saddle, but am unable to do testing because I will be asking a relative to get it for me in the US.

I'm not sure how much, but the max flite is slightly wider than the regular flite. The Trans Am, (the one we were discussing), has a cut out section in the middle. There is also a gel version but I'm going with the Trans Am myself. You might check Selle Italia's site and see if they give dimensions on the Flite vs. the Max Flite.

I have been using Flite Transalps titanium, since 1996 and its a good saddle, just don't soak it with water and if they do get wet have to dry it with dry cloth, (you know what happen to leather, they tend to get soggy) I send an email to the manufacturer inquiring if they are still making the old model Flite Transalps said they do but it has been modified in that is has a slot in the middle, as for riding comfort would rate it at 8, and 1 being bad and 10 very good.

"Trans Am" is how SI identifies saddles with a slot down the middle. So a Flite Trans Am would be a Flite with a slit, basically.
I have Max TA's on both of my bikes as well. Just as was said in the other thread, it's a bit wider than the Flite, so you'd choose it if the spacing between your sit bones matches it better.
I had a Flite Gel once and hated it. But that just illustrates the basic premise: because it was slightly too narrow, my sit bones tended to straddle the wide part of the saddle more. This forced the center line of the saddle -- where a TA has a cutout -- right up into my perineal tissues. The lump of gel made it even worse, compressing the tissue even more. Painful.

RacerX... That would be a bit too narrow for me, I'm afraid. I Rode on a Specialized ProLong Evo saddle for many years until I realized that cycilng was not supposed to be an agonizing activity.

I tried a Specialized BG saddle a couple of years ago. I had the very unsettling sensation that my cheeks were going in different directions with each pedal stroke. Not very stable.
