Congrats MN BIanchi on your century! Well done!
had 32 miles today, I rode w/a friend and we found another friend along the way :p I also ordered some bib tights and gloves, thereby assuring the late arrival of cold weather since I am now prepared for it.... Colleen |
9-29.......23 Miles out and back to Metro parks.
|
9-27 Drove to Terre Haute to try to ride with scheduled group from Deming Park. Nobody showed up so I rode about 20 by myself. No motivation, it was kind of disappointing.
9-29 26.7 @ 19.6, fun ride, a little windy on the way out but fun coming home. |
9/29-0.00 miles

9/27- 32 miles in Taylorsville, KY. I went out early in the morning to avoid drunken rednecks that like to kill queer bike riders like me. I've never climbed so much before!
9/28- 63 miles in Taylorsville, KY. I found a road with an average grade of 10% over 2 miles and climbed it, went for a few miles, turned around and went back down. I kept on going and found the hill that destroyed me 2 years ago, a monster 22.3%'er that's three-quarters of a mile long. The good news; I didn't stop, and I didn't need my small cog, I climbed it in the 39x19 If only I owned land out there, I could make the sweetest, most badass XC course EVAR. |
9/29 - 9 miles

And the reason why I was in Kentucky; Baby Emily is a year old!

My wife and I loaded up and rode the town of English (new town). Very nice ride, her first real ride in 20 plus years. 3 miles or so.

BG/Slippery Elm Trail (SET) trip
Completed my 1st metric century yesterday: 64.2 miles, solo, not counting the 8.5mi RT work commute. Previous longest ride was 31mi. Got off work at 6am, left at 8am, home at 2pm, back to work at 10pm. Maumee to Bowling Green 38.2mi RT, Slippery Elm Trail 26mi RT. I guess my average time works out to 10mph including lunch, the bike shop, and assorted rest breaks. Boring details: From Maumee, took River Rd to Waterville, then 64S (Haskins Rd) to Bowling Green. Got there before the bike shop opened so decided to try the Slippery Elm trail instead of waiting. Almost turned back a couple times because it was getting late and my ass isn't used to so much saddle time. Stopped probably every 5-10 miles for a quick stretch while on the trail. Stopped at the bike shop for a bit after doing the trail and talked for a bit. They recommended Hull Prairie Rd as an alternative road home. Haskins is a 50mph hwy with a 6in shoulder and guard rails next to the shoulder, Hull Prairie Rd is being resurfaced in several sections so very rough but otherwise a nice country road. Back in Maumee stopped at a Bar & Grill for a nonalcoholic lunch (still have to work that night) and then went home. |
yea, 64 is very narrow and can be sketchy, especially with all the truck traffic and wind.
Next time take hull prairie go left on 582 and pick up 64. It has less traffic north of haskins, and hull prairie gets super rough north of 582. |
Took it all the way to River Road. It was rough but the lack of traffic was worth it. It seemed more of a straight shot and I really wanted to finish and get get off the bike. Will consider 582 to 64 next time. Thanks for the tip, unfamiliar with any of the rural roads.

Pedaled the 8.5 miles in to work today to retrieve my car, which was left there when I ran home last night. Then turned around and came home shortly thereafter with a screaming headache.

9/30 - yes , 18 miles. First time in tights and jacket after hot summer. Fall is officially here.... Every day is golden now before it gets too dark to ride after work.
|
I raced in the rain tonight. I didn't do anything spectacular, but it was pretty fun. The only thing I don't like about rain is that I have to clean my bike.
|
9/30 - 24 miles Yea, the downpour hurt my eyes a bit.
|
10/1 20.1 @ 20.4
Went out with a headwind, turned around and had a cross wind, ending up with another headwind. Beautiful morning though, a bit chilly, but I warmed up after 3-4 miles. |
Today it happened. The day I have knew would come but prayed it wouldn't. With the rain and wind and cold today mother nature gave me no choice.....I rode my rollers for my first time this season.

As a ride leader for one of the local clubs I had a ride on the schedule for today 10/1. Well here in NE ohio the weather today is not quite perfect, off and on rain, very windy (15 gusts to mid 20's) temps in the low 50's. As ride time approach and there was no rain falling at that time I reluctantly got ready (long sleeve jersey, wool socks, shoe covers, helmet liner, You get the picture), and off i went, Didn't think anyone would show, low and behold one guy did, so the ride is on.
Well it was a great ride (seriously!!), the crisp air, the smells, even the wind was enjoable. I am so glad I went. We did 35 miles and I couldn't have had a better time!!! |
summer shorts, jersey and lycra arm "warmers". That's what I wore during my 3:30pm ride today. The weather wasn't bad, but I didn't feel like going out for very long, so I did some HADSs*, and after 18.43 miles I called it a day. The fact that my choes and bar tape were still a little more-than-damp didn't help too much either.
Earlier, I reported to work, chatted with Gary for a few minutes, and for the first time I realized I needed to get a new job. My manager told me I didn't need to work if I didn't want to today since we were overstaffed as it was. I went in and adjusted my [overly-finicky] Surly bearings on the FG, ordered some stuff and was back out. :EDIT: HADSs- Half-Assed Drill Sprint |
10/1- 46 miles
|
9/30 - 12.2 miles
10/1 - 11.7 miles Still getting over my cold a bit. Only rode around town last two days but hoping to pull a 30 miler tomorrow. |
