18 miles.

momof4greatkids 04-25-09 01:51 PM

15 miles for a recovery day...made more interesting by wind @ 29 mph w/gusts to 39 :) but hey it's 80+ and sunny so no complaints!

Dan and Gary I hope your century had a northeast point to point route.

102 miles...First 50 miles were basically into the 30mph head winds then the second half was a cross to tail wind. 13 or 14 riders total. Very nice group of people. Eric from the Lake Erie Wheelers put on a great ride. Very well organized including a personal SAG.

It's about time you rode with those guys. Glad you had a good time, I've told a couple times times you need to do a LEW ride. I raced at RATL in the 35+ and 45+ race. About 40 riders, hyper speed from the get go. Off the back after 6 laps, then kept picking up "wasted riders" for a third group of 7. A crash amongst the leaders with 4 laps to go stopped the race after 4 neutral laps.

Way to go Scott on your 2nd place in the 4's race. I still say, you would look good in the white/gold and black kit. You would also have a bunch of help, just saying.:innocent:

Looks like Sal got a puncutured lung, broken wrist, possible shoulder, and ribs.

See you there next week! You going to do 4s or masters?

Yep....He towed me the last 25 miles....for the most part. I don't know if my saddle let me down or my 3 year old shorts but it felt like for every peddle stroke my sit bones were cutting through my skin. I was in agony then just as suddenly it would go away for a few miles only to come back again. Those last few miles really sucked. I am not cut out to be a century rider. Give me the fast 60 mile rides and Ill be happy :)

That wreck happened in a flat and wide open area before the bridge leading up to the finish. Maybe the wind pushed a rider into another rider then the pileup began. I will be in PA next weekend riding big hills as a prep ride before the 77 mile race in Mid-May. With 6,400' of climbing I'll need to have some "hurt intervals" interspaced on a long training ride.

Good luck next week. I'll be back at RATL in two weeks and may do both the 4's and Masters to get one last extended long race in. Missed you today at the race in the Valley. CrimsonKarter was there racing in the A race. Not complaining, but it sure is different riding in heat again.

jmio 04-26-09 10:43 AM

55 miles today, wind was ok.............when it was at my back!

CrimsonKarter21 04-26-09 11:07 AM

I DNF'ed after feeling good for the race.
I had the strength to race, but after such a long break my bike handling skills were d*ck. I think I lasted 4 or 5 of the 7 laps. By my last lap I'd started to feel more comfortable and moved up from the back of the group, but the hammer was dropped in a tricky part that I just couldn't handle.

I'll be back next week. I really surprised myself today.

72 miles today down to Lodi w/Tina and her knight in shining armor, the Indomitable Dan. Dan was fresh as a daisy after riding a century yesterday and got us organized in a little rotating paceline to take our mind off our trouble..and it worked :thumb:

Yes there was a killer and unrelenting headwind, and it was tough, but still better than a working, eh Gary?

leinad 04-26-09 04:07 PM

didn't get enough yesterday so added 80 miles on today. Started out with a group of 6 including my wife and momof4, as well as 3 other guys, The girls dropped them like a bad habit, so it was the three of us for the majority of the ride. The ladies did a spectacular job, we even had a real cool pace line going during the hardest part of the ride. It was pretty funny though because, my wife who weighs maybe 115 pounds, when momof would pull off the front and the wind would hit her, it was like someone grab her back wheel and pulled her straight backwards, almost ran her over several times. The down wind part was the best leasurely 25+ without touching the pedals, great fun!

BTW Coleen, joel and the others made it back safe, over an hour behind us!!

leinad 04-26-09 04:13 PM

Coleen, what a thing to say, were would you have gotten such a mean idea, certainly not for ME!

LOL!!

wow, that's a long time to be out in that wind, I'm happy they made it back safe and sound...

Tina did awesome today I'm so glad for her. It was a good day thanks for getting the ride together.

nocondorfx 04-26-09 05:33 PM

Bill, i decided to skip, how did you do?

I skipped the Covered Bridge Race to do the New Martinsville Road Race- part of the West Virginia Road Race Series.
46 miles with some killer climbs combined with my winter weight still being on my bones and combinging the cat 1-3s and 4-5 class together, things were looking bleek.

Regardless, the race must go on.

I attack on the first climb 10 miles in. This brings together a 6 man group. Holds on for a few miles, and then the field catches back on. So, I decided to attack hard; and I held it for the final 26 miles solo-ala jeremy grimm last year at the valley city race. It was 90 degrees and painful up the climbs, but with about 8 miles to go, the cop told me the next guy was over a mile back. Feeling relieved I put the hammer down and took the descent quick and sprinted to the line.( i need practice)

1st 4/5. 1st overall.

nocondorfx 04-26-09 05:39 PM

oh, and on the way back I drank this. And had a sudden urge to ride with 3 helmet mirrors and a primal tuxedo jersey:

Everytime I ride a mountain bike I get hurt. I am looking for 2 to 3 hours on the road bike in the mourning and then an afternoon with my shovel and mulch.

Thanks! I will try to put my upgrade in after a few more races. right now I may have 16 points or 0 depending on how close to the rules you want to get.

As for the knob... I have to work tomorrow. But I've been itching to ride the mtb!! Soon. If I ever plan on going, I'll be sure to let you know.:thumb:
