terribly annoying creaking noise that's been getting progressively worse. Thought it was the BB, now im thinking it might be the headset or something else near the front, so I'm having them check it out.

I just checked your bikewire loop commute and it seems you work just across the river. Cool We should go to 311 S. Wacker next Wednesday, enjoy the live music and have some Sushi or something.
I envy you for the Mexican food at home. Sadly most of my Mexican food comes from the place with the bell and chihuahua. Too late for 311 today, we should definitely go next week.

On topic...25 miles on the way in...19.5 avg. Gotta love the cross/tailwind

7/29 - Penny Rd Pub Ride. Nice ride. I was feeling great - wasn't gassed coming off of the first stuff. Felt really good....then on Spring before Haeger's bend I took a long pull. i was feeling good, but that pull combined with the effort to get back on the train as it went by gassed me enough that I needed a quick breather.

I took it at the turn, but someone else in the group attacked. I was OTB right away. MJH2 hung back with me, but I was just sucking wind for a substantial portion of the rest of the route.

With the closure of the road the actual route was kind of up in the air. I guessed at what they would do and decided that even if they didn't it would still be a good route for us. We making the ride in and they caught us

Turns out they took a quick detour, but did actually do the route we did. Ended up finishing with the group. They pulled in about 1.5 mph faster for the ride. Not much, but enough.

Someday......someday....

Commute after work...25.6 17.6 avg. What's with the wind? Scummer had a cross/headwind, I had a cross/headwind, and we go in opposite directions. Gotta love the Windy City!

I keep forgetting to mention this, but since I remember now here it is....If you ever lose or need a refill on a bottle, the cute girls at Skyway Dogs have always given me ice water no charge. I have bought LOTS of hot dogs before though. Nothing like a hot dog in your jersey pocket to keep you warm during the winter

Haha.. I need to keep that in mind. Since my target is to commute this winter as well. Last winter sucked. I put all my weight back on, not this time... ooooohhhh no!
I picked up some winter gear from Kozy's on 30% sale. I'm ready for it!

BTW.. headwind/crosswind. Funny that you had headwind too, because at the race on Sunday the wind direction changed almost every 5 laps or so for the Pro/1/2 riders. First it was full tailwind, 30 min. later it was full headwind. Was pretty funny to watch the flags turn north and south every so often.

24 miles @ 18mph before work, from Victorian Village in Columbus, up High, down Lane on to the Olentangy Bike Path, up to I-270, saw the time and followed the route back home....

Body was not in it to win it, not at all, but I pushed through. Lots of mental yelling, lol.

Ditto.

I mentioned West Branch's expert rock garden to Greg at Spin, and he's like "Awwww, that's nothin'!"

I am sure this is a repetitive issue, but how do you all deal with people unaware of the laws of the road?

Here in Michigan (I'm sure as in others), bicycles are considered vehicles and are allowed to ride on the road, although they should stay in the right lane when possible. It seems like as of late, when I'm going on a ride, I usually get one person beep their horn at me and another say say something about a sidewalk.

I don't remember being asked questions about bicycles in driver's training, but there is info about bikes in the book I still have. So, I understand why most people are unaware of the fact. However, it still annoys and upsets me. This one lady today was sort of harassing me. It was a two lane road (on one side) and she very well could have passed me, but she stayed behind me and beeped her horn for a good 20 seconds. She finally passed me and as she did, I spat at her car. I guess I lack a bit of self-control, but it just really ticks me off. People who drive cars think they own the f***ing road, when they don't. It's one thing if you are ignorant. It's another if you are ignorant and open up your mouth when you shouldn't. Other, times, I'll show them a (middle) finger or appendage (thumb up).

A better thing to do would have been to motion her to pull over so I could explain to her what the laws are, but she probably wouldn't have wanted to.

I enjoy bicycle riding. Ignore the uninformed. Today heard !!!!!!Sidewalk. Later we got Right Hooked on a country road.
Heat Index 104* Today. Total 81 miles. Dave is 65 y/o, Bill is 76 y/o. Me 66 y/o from Indiana.

40 miles today. Hot and humid but still wonderful out. Rode an easy recovery pace over at Fermi. I love watching the buffalo over there roll around in the dirt and all the prairie fields of flowers that are blooming. Such a nice place to ride.

10 wheels....

With more people than ever taking to the roads on bikes, people are just going to have to learn to be more courteous. The sad truth is that in many areas, the majority of folks feel that roads are for cars and resent any cyclist that inconveniences them. They seem to be totally ignorant of the laws. I, too, have to say that I see cyclists act very uncourteously on their bikes with a total disregard to the rules of the road. As a matter of fact, when I stop at a stop sign to wait my turn, many look downright shocked that I didn't just fly on through the intersection. I think it's a ....two way street.

Be careful and don't assume that they are going to give you much space. I don't trust anyone and the ones texting while driving scare me most.

I don't blame you for getting angry but you don't want to end up hurt by some idiot who flies into a rage.

All I can say is that it's not like that in Boulder, CO, where I just visited. When they are doing road construction that extends into the biking lanes, they have signs that say "Cars merge with bikes" Ya gotta love that. Another sign I loved "One Way...bikes excepted"

it sucks, but it is what it is. it has been that way for years. just be smart and stay off the busiest of busy roads. this is the USofA and cars rule for better or worse. i just let it roll off my back. later.

Thanks for the replies all. True--I do go through stop signs and red lights, but I guess it may be looked down upon, because our culture is different in the U.S. I don't much see the point in totally stopping at red lights and stop signs when there is absolutely no traffic or pedestrians, so I just slow down and look both ways. I stop at busy streets and stop when there are other cars (or a cop ) at stop signs though--that's just plain common sense. I know that's not really what you were referring to, but I thought I'd just throw it in there.

I think the bike puns are subconscious

DTown, you gotta win them over one car at a time.

There's not going to be some mass realization by drivers that cyclists have equal rights under the law, but a nod here, some positive eye contact and acknowlegement there, etc., when drivers do things right is the way to win them over.

Hocking a phlegm globber at every annoying car would really start hurting your throat after a while.

By the way, you're lucky you posted your spitting on the honking car here. Post it over in Advocacy & Safety sub-forum and see how many pages you get out of that!

I went out for 35 miles. The first half felt great and I was clipping along at a good speed, but then I turned around and realized that the wind had been pushing me the whole time and I had to go 17 miles dead into the wind. I got home, but that last 5 miles I was gased pretty bad. More and more effort with slower and slower speed.
