OK you guys in Wisc. Listen up, please! Would any of you welcome a couple of ohio boys to your little sufferfest if we were stupid enough to drive up there? Welcome, as in, have a spare place to lay our weary heads? the price of gas alone is more than most good hotels, so that would make it more of a possiblility and this would be a definite MAYBE at best.

yep, this is me in june after 132 miles 12,000 feet of climbing and no walking. little birdies suggested a compact. i went with a double. next to running 26.2 miles in 96 degree heat with limited water it was the most difficult thing i have done to date.
im not saying. im just saying.
Every time my fingers touch brain, I'm Superfly T.N.T.
later.

I am not sure STUPID is the right word.....Geez it's only a 8 hour drive up there.....then punish ourselves with a bunch of Cheeseheads then drive 8 hours home......what's STUPID about that?

OK! Here's another thought, Where would we want to stay (as in close by town) if we wanted to look into a hotel/motel. Our thought's so far are to drive up fri/ride/go home sun.

Middleton, WI hotels. You wil be less than ten miles away. They are all relatively new.
Extended Stay on the westside Madison is a good price. I've stayed there so I can attest that it is fine and it is near restaurants, shopping, and a Trek Store. Anything that says Madison West or West Towne or Middleton is going to be a good location. Do not stay in any Madison South or East areas. South is sketchy and East is too far. City of Verona would be ok today, but a slightly longer drive to Cross Plains (15 miles, maybe?). Cross Plains is just a little village and I don't it has any hotels. And there wouldn't be anything to do there anyway.
FYI Toledo to Madison is about 400 miles if that helps. I can get there in about 6.5 hours if there are no problems in Chicago.

So let me get this right, drive 3 hours to meet up with the BFNIC for 10 minutes only to say goodbye as they take off down the road and then spend then next 4-5 hours riding around the very hilly back roads of Wisconsin by myself, only to hope I can get back to my car in the empty parking lot??
Sounds like I might just go for the udder and listen to the horror stories. I might even be able to stay with the group on their recovery ride udder until the first rest stop.

If you're into camping you could camp at either Governor Dodge or Blue Mound State Parks. They are close by and cheaper than a hotel. Reserve a spot now, though.

It happens. Sometimes. I made it from Elkhart to Madison in under four hours in two occasions. It was a miracle. I didn't even have to drive like a FIB'er. Then there was the time it took 5.5 hours to go Gary.
IAB - there is absolutely no way you would be sweeping behind me. Not only am I slow climber, I don't exactly scream down the hills (but do stay in a straight line, knowing I will be passed). I don't have the advantages of gravity or the temerity of some of you. I did once max at 47 at a hill about 3 miles from Cross Plains (into pea gravel, no less).
JB - good suggestion. There is also camping at Dane County parks. www.countyofdane.com. Indian Lake is not too far.

I'd give a thumbs up to the Super8 motel in verona. Really clean, really nice, and not too expensive.

Oh yeah...... I'm in!!!!!! I'll be with the B's helping out on sweep singing that dang stupid song that I will never forgive Psimet for!!!!!
This time I'm bringing my delicious post ride treats. I will give someone the key to my car and y'all can grab a snack when you get back. Just be sure to leave me a little something to gnaw on when I return...hopefully before nightfall.
"Again, I don't climb, but I love punishment"...by the way Psimet...we are kindred souls.

I definitely need some strategy. I can still remember the last steep climb where there was and eery silence. Only heavy breathing and heart monitors going off like crazy. I think we were lucky to get rain instead of the afternoon sun and 90 degree weather.

Yes, I'll have map/cue sheets available. I'll link it in the first post when it gets finalized. I'm currently working with a few local experts on refining the ride. What's currently linked is only tentative and may change in the coming weeks.
Let's get down to brass tacks, gentlemen. If I was informed correctly, the clock is ticking, is that right, Jimmie?
Uh, one hundred percent.

Looks great, until a shoelace gets stuck in it. If it happens to anybody, I'm sure it would be me.
