Oh
My
God

Honda just unexpectedly pulled out of F1 immediately today. The past two days it was a question whether they'd stay on for 2010, but they just announced that 2008 was their last season. All those guys without jobs. They shelled out so much money to keep Jenson Button and to buy out Ross Brawn and they're just pulling out. Wow. This is bad.

That would mean that rednecks would have nothing better to do on the weekends than get in their trucks and mow down cyclists.

This sucks. I want to ride, but I don't want to go outside, and I don't want to ride inside.

That's how the sport goes, man. F1 used to be the league of Maserati or Lotus. Marques come and fade. Thankfully the FIA seems to care less about large fields than attracting 4-6 decently funded cars... the circus will go on.

ride the trainer in the garage with the door open. Worse of both worlds plus people can still drive by and throw stuff at you.

Sunday's cross race may not be too difficult for me. The frozen ground and mud could be an equalizer to riding against those little light guys who's tires float over the crap ground.

Looks like Monday will be the best day for the night group ride next week. 29 degrees only going down to 27 degrees means the winds will be light. (I think so, it's been many years since meteorology class in college)

Why don't they have an icon for cold?

Ski baby !!

Getting my gear bags together so it's an easy grab-n-go.

Latest ski race (XC silly !) - streaming - on demand: http://www.universalsports.com/media...FILE_ID=354006

Looking forward to shooting pix Sunday. Last race in a LONG cycling season.

I've been watching those races on Universal. Good stuff. If all goes well, I may catch an Olympic XC ski race or two in Vancouver next year.

I wish we had enough XC ski opportunity around here to make getting the gear and learning the sport worth it.

A lot of guys around here ski a lot. Last year they got a ton of skiing in. It was enough that I went back to my parents and got my 15 yr old x-country ski gear and brought it up here. It's in pretty bad shape and was cheap when I bought it, but it's good enough to get out a few times a year......

IIRC - cross coutry gear was UBER cheap compared to downhill stuff....but this was 15 yrs ago and in New York.

I got a flyer at the south barrington LL Bean store on wednesday (NE corner of higgins and 59), I believe it was 20% off XC ski and snowshoe equipment this weekend, the 5th-7th. i'm not sure if the flyer is needed to get the discount, but if so, mine is available. They did have sporthill XC pants (the 3SP stuff), might be a good deal if those are included (they are $89 on the rack).

I did go out for a ride today for an hour and a half. knee warmers and no shoe covers!

Inside on your trainer right. I always wear knee warmers too when it's 50 degrees (the temp that a lot of guys set their houses too when it gets this cold and they can't afford the gas).

Unfortunately for you guys, I almsot never follow Gary's advice. I rode some frozen singletrack. It gets a little hairy when you're doing 25 mph on ice with your XC racing tires.:p

Just because you have to get all bundled up like a teeeeeeny girl when it drops below 70's doesn't mean you have to take potshots at those of us who'd rather spend money on bike stuff than heating our homes!

Why do families get all dressed up just to go to dinner at some shack-of-a-restaurant?

Maybe that's the only place in a town of 200? I mean, if you know everyone... even if you're only going down for a burger and fries on a friday night... at least put in the effort.

For your delectation:

We live in the same town. I would guess population is around 20,000 people and we are maybe 12 miles out of Cleveland.

I saw my neighbors pull up to Bubba's BBQ Shanty all dressed up. I had just seen them at home a few hours prior. They're weird folk. From Idaho or Iowa or one of those boring MidWest states.
Once they showed up to a block party all dressed up. Like suits and ties. I'm sure their kids are suicidal, one of them plays on her toy bike on my street, she thinks it's fun to sit behind cars that are backing up. Fo' rill.
