Holbus as Sigmund Freud. Or Colonel Sanders. I guess the bike is like 70 years old though, pretty cool.

Scummer 11-03-09 06:37 AM

Ouch.

The Wheel Man is looking hot.

Your legs are burning. Tunnel vision is setting in as you slowly bonk. A quick look back to see and .... OH OH!

Hey you Wisco people, whats up with this race in Milwaukee this weekend--Estabrook park? I may pass on the CCC and head up for it.

Is it worth the trip across the cheezy divide?:p

John Wilke 11-04-09 09:12 AM

It's an awesome park. One of the oldest in the city, right on the Milwaukee river. Course is mostly flat, probably the flattest of the Wisco 'cross races with the exception of one hill:

This one I shot at Kletch and Estabrook parks:

Yesterday I went into the Patagonia store on Clybourn to buy some gear for the ILR cross race.
I go inside and there's a cross bike covered in mud. I smiled. Just then one of the many sales bunnies came over so I asked "is this someone that works here?"

"No, it's his" said the little bunny, pointing to a customer.

I walked up to him and said "St. Charles?"

Confused for only an instant, he caught my drift and started laughing.

Funny moment.

Still working out the details but it looks like the Cuttin' Crew will host a party on Friday the 13th at The Cave, located in the Indian Lakes Resort.

Fat Tire will be made available at a reasonable price.

Come to the party, stay all night, race in the morning.

If you're staying in the hotel please use the code "CYC" when booking. Not only does that get you a discount, but it allows the hotel to track how many rooms the cross race generates. The more rooms we sell the more likely we'll be invited to return.

"What a great race ... I'm never washing this bike!" :thumb: (email sent regarding photos)

Good stuff John! Maybe I'll big geared properly this time! Extra freewheel hasn't come in yet, but hopefully soon just in case!

See you Sunday!

let's be honest, it's not the best costume out there. It's more of a continuous presence, kinda like the Cuttin Cruiser.

Geisha gets my vote

I haven't voted...yet....Geisha was awesome because it seemed so out of character for him to do that.

I thought I knew who it was after I saw him a couple of times and then he was walking back to his car without everything on but still had the white face on and I went, "I KNEW IT! I thought it was you but wasn't sure. Awesome costume!"

SG is classic though....

BTW - I plan on being at the party. Trying to convince the wife to get a room for that night. sucks to race the next day though...

Mayonnaise 11-06-09 01:56 PM

I'm really trying to push the overnight stay. The happier the hotel (and they use room stays to judge happiness) the better for all of us. Next year, if things go right, we're talking about a 2 day event. How great would that be?

Psimet2001 11-06-09 03:18 PM

That would be so great I think we need to do it this year too! :thumb:

nerobro 11-06-09 05:31 PM

So, anyone else annoyed that we can't use the sled hill at northbrook? I'm willing to drive as far as dekalb to cause myself pain and embarrassment, but why must the town closest to me do the lamest things? "You can only park X-Y-Z." "Yes you can have a race, but you can't actually take over the park." "You can't use the best terrain feature we have."

John Wilke 11-06-09 08:02 PM

... and no beer.:wtf::notamused:

In case someone hasn't seen it yet, my chance (once again) at shameless self promotion, last year's Northbrook race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNAAESsfE3o

Psimet2001 11-06-09 08:17 PM

Yeah we'll see. It will still be a good turnout but I know a lot of guys that are taking this week off. Personally I am considering it. Unless I get some rentals stirred up I don't have much of a reason to drive out that far. Weather should be nice though......

John Wilke 11-08-09 06:17 PM

I just spent two days of beautiful weather standing up on a stupid ladder, so someone better have some good race stories to tell! :twitchy:

Scummer 11-08-09 08:05 PM

Race story? Hmm.. let's see... I suck at bike racing. How's that for a story?
The weather was excellent btw.. almost too hot. But spectating as always was glorious! Lot's o wipeouts because of many off camber slippery sections, tight turns going uphill and some other nasty stuff.

I took only one spill, so I got that going for me. The sand pit was one of the main attractions. Quite a few racers flying over the handlebars and face first into the sand. That was awesome! :D

The course was between 6 and 8 min. long, depending on your fitness.

The big hill was not included, I think the park rangers didn't allow because of the grass or some lame excuse.

3 podiums, 1 win, 1 top 10. You missed it.
