Proof that an un-loved hybrid can be more than a capable crosser:

I think this $50 conversion is even a bit more than needed if the goal is just to get out there and mix it up.

we are live with big reg.

The flyer needs to be changed. Copyright issues have landed me in a bit of hot water so the caddyshack stuff has to come off. fun while it lasted.

cast came off yesterday and I have zero range of motion in the wrist.

doctor says no bike riding but I will only listen for about 2 weeks.

I spent a small fortune on this thing
http://www.cyclezoneinc.com/componen...fb69e72a24.png

in order to get back on the bike sooner.

I may only make one lap but i gotta do Jackson Park

Psimet2001 08-25-09 10:25 AM

Nice....I'm sniffing tubular glue in cyclocross anticipation...

I will be racing Fall Fling and then make it over to Dekalb for that one...if the timing works out right.

Signed up for the cross race

Just watched porkchopwi's video from the Whitewater CX race last year (which was, coincidentally, the birth of carlosflanders) and had the following thoughts:

1. It's amazing how you forget just how nasty the cold weather was at some of these races;
2. Riding in the water was A LOT quicker than riding the sand;
3. A lot of really fun racing takes place at speeds one would hardly consider "racing" when not completely exhausted;
4. The girl who crosses the line before Psimet might be attractive in normal attire (hard to tell);
5. I never need to do another Wisconsin cross race. That course was brutal.

Video to get you going:

Edit: Add #6. Cyclocross really is for all shapes, sizes and bike types. Watch the start of that race...

Thanks for reminding me that I suck....

You don't suck, man. You're just not as fast as that girl.

I can say that because, as carlosflanders likes to point out, I got 4th that race!

I found some video clips from Jingle Cross that I haven't shown yet. Did you say that you like mud and snow thrown on top of a scary fast downhill?? Stay tuned. :)

(I don't think I could road trip with Nate ... where does he get this music from??? :D )

carlosflanders 08-31-09 05:48 PM

MJH2, you need to do more Wisconsin races. Whitewater was perfect for you.

Even though I thought (at the time) it was a ridiculous course; in retrospect, it was one of the most enjoyable races I've ever done. Took me 6 months to realise that though.

To be honest,most of the Chicago course aren't up to a heck of a lot. But, You have to take what you are given.

The most 'crossy course was St. Charles. Best designed was Carpentersville. Honourable mention to Jackson Park. Lansing was more fun than I expected. Northbrook had the best technical sections.

John Wilke 08-31-09 07:49 PM

Rumor has it that Tjayk will be riding 'cross.

What about Recursive? I'm sure we can find you an old steel Guerciotti or sumthin' ! Pradun?

Mayonnaise 09-01-09 09:46 AM

hey guys,

looking for a few leads on spots to advertise our race. We've got a bit of money to spend and I want to put banner ads in a few spots that would attract cross racers to our event that wouldn't otherwise come.
Thinking about Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa organizations.

Really want to get people to spend the night in the hotel and take advantage of the entire resort.

John Wilke 09-01-09 12:14 PM

Working on a new video. Been sitting on my stuff from Jingle Cross because there was so much put out right after the race. Now that some of it is unusable on YouTube due to copyright infringement (tsk tsk), I'll put mine out!

Send me your banner code and I will put it on my website next to my tubular deals.

Speaking of which I have added some carbon tubular packages for people as well....check it out

You forgot a "/" or sumpthin' in your link.

MJH2 09-01-09 03:10 PM

Mayo-

I'm not sure if he posts much on cross, but you can probably get your ad in front of most of the twin cities bike psychos by advertising on the local equivalent of CBR.com, www.bikethrow.com

This might be a completely dumb idea, but I'll throw it out there: If you've got a little scratch and are trying to get folks interested have you thought about using some of it to comp either rooms or entry fees (or whatever) to "local" hotshoes from out-of-area series? Like, maybe try to pull the resident badasses from St. Louis or Madison? It seems you might get more interested for lower cat slobs like myself to come along if they know that guy who cleans up in their 1/2's is headed to Chicago to try and steal some Illinois greenbacks.

Porkchopwi 09-01-09 03:24 PM

Re-living that video, I recall it as one of the hardest things I'd done on a bike -- and it was only 30 min! (And YouTube took away the Led Zep soundtrack I had on there).
While I would race that course again, I'm working the day of the event this year -- and NOT changing my work schedule! I'll try a few other of the SE Wisc. 'cross courses this year.

You could also try offering gas money or more to cat 1 or pro riders. Maybe also to junior CX teams from Baraboo or Louisville. Maybe some of the races could be rated for collegiate level as well?

RJBTrek 09-01-09 07:48 PM

Argggg....Just finished a training ride with a small group of cross riders. The ride that included obstacles and this is the first time I tried the dismount/mount. I still have the family jewels intact so that part was a success. Did take down a couple barriers, got stuck in my clips and left skin from my shin in the pedal. After an hour, I finally got the hang of it. This will be an interesting season!

The Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival has major changes for the Sunday events this year. The biggest is a new cyclocross race called the Cable Critcross, now the first of the season, replacing the short track criterium style race that had been featured in the past.

nerobro 09-08-09 01:27 AM

Well I'm in for the Jackson Park race. So long as my MTB cuts it. I couldn't see any rules for the sort of bike that's legal. :-)
