I've never done cross before, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

It's really only fun when it's over.

Ringing endorsement.

I think I'll just bring a cooler and yell at you all when you suffer past.

carlosflanders 07-29-09 05:45 PM

Better yet, bring some dollars.

Psimet2001 07-29-09 08:28 PM

Hells yes. I miss handups.

RJBTrek 07-29-09 09:55 PM

I took the plunge and bought a cylocross bike. Not to the hard part....learning to jump off the bike without a foot ramaining clipped and remounting without damaging the family jewels!

Learning how isn't hard. Getting it down to the point where you don't have to think about it and it just naturally happens is the hard part. But, there is no shame in hitting a barrier or two in that process.

Welcome to the pain. You'll be stronger next spring for it.

And, like I said, it's only fun when it's over (but it's a lot of damn fun).

Psimet2001 07-29-09 11:08 PM

i can't wait

jbernaeyge 07-30-09 07:22 AM

As a completely unrelated matter, I love the way we Chicago area fools come up with completely unrelated names for stuff. Like, Indian Lakes resort. There MAY still be some native Americans in the area (HIGHLY unlikely, though), but there damn sure aren't any lakes.

It should be named something more appropriate. Maybe Caucasian Suburban Sprawl resort.

Just because you don't see a teepee or eagle head dress does not mean native americans are not here. My blonde hair/blue eyed daughter does not look half Indian. American Indian Center of Chicago is on Wilson in Chicago and has a gallery in Schaumburg. Illinois and Chicago are Indian names.. so is Schaumburg. Opppsss.. ok maybe not Schaumburg.

Cranky bugger! The Dutch riders get dog's abuse from the Belgian fans at the races. Gerben de Knegt was giving them the finger while in the lead on the first lap at CX worlds in '07. You've probably all seen Groenendaal's famous middle finger to Nys when he wouldn't gift his teammate the victory in a race. There's also a vid of him dispatching an American rider (Molly Cameron maybe?) out of the way this year when he was being lapped and making Richard impatient. I'll see if I can dig that one up.

It was Steven Hunter, Molly's mechanic

Bernard Hinault-like ferocity.

I'm not exactly sure what is going on there, but I'm pretty sure that rider was acting in self defense.

Had to be.

I guess this guy got tired of the fan abuse...

If you guys feel like a little longer road trip, head up to Hudson (near Minneapolis) Oct. 18... you can wacth me go off the back (again) on my mtb:

The Hudson-based (Wisc.) Big Ring Flyers are holding our second annual CX in October. Look for a pretty cool door prize from County Cycles (www.countycycles.com) in Roseville, Minn. (A single-speed Felt CX bike — the whole thing).

We’re also getting help from Hummer Nutrition (http://www.hammernutrition.com/) and Ritchey (http://www.ritcheylogic.com/).

10/18/09
Hudson, Wisc.; St. Croix Valley YMCA, 2211 Vine St.
Flyer in the works

If you can’t wait until October, we’re also hosting a (road bike) time trial Aug. 29 in Hudson:

There's a nice video up of last year's Northbrook race at http://chicrosscup.com/. I believe it was even put together by "somebody" who is a regular local photographer at cycling events.

Man, that downhill turn was nasty!
