a quick note as a follow up to the ride, particularly for anyone who might consider it for next year. it was very fine. i would recommend it. i did the century, but there were several shorter loops (seems like all the centuries are that way these days!). i heard mention of about 300 riders, but i'm not sure how accurate that is. there were lots of folks out on the road. many from the twin cities, duluth, and northern wis. the route was primarily through the chequamegon national forest--more forest than lake on the route. the usual variations in road surface over that distance but most of it was good to excellent. rest stops were appropriate. the local police were out in numbers and helpful with traffic. i came alone but easily hooked up with others of like ability. moderate hills, nothing to keep anyone away. keep an eye out for this next year if you are anywhere close. i will certainly do it again. now my next ride in three weeks: the north county 100 out of wakefield, mi.
