Bikes: Trek 8.5ds 2015, Trek Navigatir 300 (2006)

xt shifters, derailleurs, cassette, KMC X10-93 chain (quick link convenience and I like KMC chains) , Race Face Chester pedals and Token TK878TBT Tiramic Bearings bottom bracket. After the price point of the FX 3 hybrids seem to morph into flat bar road bikes (frame, gears, wheels, tyres etc). I thought the FX 3 was a sensible starting point for a great commuter which would be comfortable and be able to safely carry more weight with work clothes and a heavy backpack, then at the weekend would make a fast light comfortable winter bike to have a 1-2 hour ride on hence the sks longboard mudguards. Also the range of gears is great from a 24-34which is great for the steepest of hills up to a 44-11 is more than enough for me at high speed.

2015 fx 7.4

Just bought a 2015 FX 7.4 in a 15" frame and the paramount grey color. I'm absolutely loving it its winter here in Chicago so I've only taken it out a few times. Was also trying to limit the miles for now because the bike shop is doing a tire swap for me. I going with bontrager AW2 hard case lite 700x28.

Congrats on the new ride! I have the same bike, same year and same color but mine is the XL size. I recently swapped tires too from the 32c to 25c and I feel like the bike came alive and is a completely different animal now.

Anyway, the 28s will also make a difference. Enjoy your ride!

Good point. 28s I think are the perfect "city" tire size. The 25s are gonna be a little sensitive to potholes but luckily I ride a loop around my neighborhood 99% of the time and it's relatively pot hole free.

are you doing anything else to the bike in preparation for the spring?

Those are some decent mods. I added a carbon seatpost that I think helped smooth out some of the pavement imperfections but I can't tell you that for a fact since I don't ride a ton. Between the carbon fork and seatpost, my ride is comfortable and it feels smooth.

Something like this one. It's made from carbon fiber and soaks up some of the pavement imperfections.

Congratulations on the new bike. I bought a new 2017 FX 3 (white) and had the bontrager AW2 hard case 700x32 tires just put on. The bike came with AW1 tires. So far I like it. When it's time to change tires, I was thinking about going to the AW2 hard case 700x28. It would be good to know how it does for you. I too have a 15" frame. I try to stay off of dirt and gravel paths. I was wondering what kind of difference to expect between the two tires.

Congrats to you also. My tires should be in Tuesday so I'll try and have the shop swap them out asap. Once I try them out I'll repost.

Bikes: 2017 Trek FX3

Just bought a pair of '17 FX3's for the wife & I to get us back into cycling (rails to trails, bike paths & sidewalk rides). After researching & riding a lot of bikes we went with the FX3's. We rode good road & mountain bikes for years & the FX3's are really enjoyable. Fast, comfortable, great handling & light - a great bike for the $$.

I was looking at the FX 3 in white but I found my FX 7.4 and it was a great deal and I really like the paramount grey with the volt green color.

Anyone know of a rear rack that will fit a fx 7.4 15 inch frame. I wanted to use a blackburn ex-1 but it seems like the brackets that attach to the seat stays will interfere with the brakes and appear to be short so the rack wont sit level. I also dont like the flat brakets that come with the ex-1. The reason for wanting to use the ex-1 rack is because it works with my co pilot baby seat.

So I just got the tiresame installed and I took a little ride and wow feels like a total different bike much more snappy all around and steering is super responsive. The ride is a little more rough but I wouldn't say bad. I'm happy with the initial impression.

the zip tie fasteners which had been holding an old style rack in place broke free during the recent sub zero temps. attached four more ties & used a bungee to insure it wouldn't break before I finished the ride. then tonite I made a proper bracket (which I had lazily been putting off).

Bikes: 2017 Trek FX3

Been working at it to get back into cycling after 15 year hiatus - after a couple hundred miles on my new FX3 I realized the stock saddle wasn't going to work for me. Senior citizen body parts were suffering on 20 mile rides. No amount of shifting on the saddle or adjustments helped. A trip to a LBS & a nice fellow there suggested several saddles one of which was a Selle Anatomica X saddle - a touring oriented saddle sold thru the company online. 30 day trial period I figured give it a shot. Out of the box I think it's going to be the ticket. Had to do some adjustments to positioning but did a 35 mile ride on it first day. I have no affiliation with this company just a satisfied user - thought I would pass along to others who might be having issues.
