Bikes: 2016 Cannondale Quick Speed 1

Perhaps $100 off? I read many posts that said discounts were normal so I asked the question

I would not pay MSRP! If the LBS is a dealer for a certain brand, let them know you are shopping around!

I bought a 2016 Sirrus Sport Disc from my LBS back in August and it was ~$100 off MSRP. They didn't have the size I wanted so they ordered it for me so I could try it out. The other 2 LBS selling the same Specialized bike wouldn't budge off of the MSRP.

I finally purchased a Cannondale Quick Speed 1 and my LBS gave it to me for $950, that's $250 off MSRP. I think that's an excellent price for that bike! 😊

I bought my wife a middle value Giant bike this past weekend and the LBS sign at front door say 10% off on 2015 model. But there are no 2015 model so there are no discount. In fact, it cost $25 more. When I ask the owner, he said that extra make up is for computer sizing, etc. He said manuf has strip alot of their profit margin. Is this true?

Not sure if this is true, but when I was shopping for a bike last year I was told that the price on the Giant website is not an MSRP but rather a rough average of actual selling prices. Not all brands -- just Giant.

Bikes: 2022 LiteSpeed CHEROHALA CITY, 2019 Canyon Roadlite 9.0 CF LTD, 2015 Giant FastRoad CoMax 1, 2001 Mongoose Pro Triomphe,

OK, I can play here. I just purchased two 2016 Giant Fastroad CoMax 1's from my local Giant dealer. It's the third set of bikes I have purchased from him in the past 4 years. All with MSRP of over $1,000.00. Two years ago on my Escape RX Composites the MRSP was $1550.00 each. I was given 17.74% off each for a out the door price of $1275.00 or $275 off each bike. This time the CoMax's MSRP is $1800.00. But because he couldn't order enough for free shipping and I wasn't willing to wait, I had to pay the shipping. So the discount was 12.5% or $225 each. I might not be the typical buyer but my LBS is not your typical seller either.

Bikes: Giant Roam 1

I don't have a lot of in depth knowledge about bike pricing but I can offer anecdotal evidence of my own experience. I live midway between two LBS that are about 30 miles apart and both sell Giant. I was shopping for and purchased a 2016 Roam 1 a few weeks ago. One shop would not discount the price at all off the $840 msrp. The other shop offered $70 off immediately without my asking. Both shops offered similar service deals. A Trek dealer that I visited also offered a discount without my asking although I don't recall the percentage.

I would run away from that Giant dealer. He is not being truthful. He is full of BS.

That wasn't from a dealer... it was from this forum. Thus the disclaimer.

Strong words. Do you have evidence that this Giant dealer was "not being truthful"? That is a serious accusation to level at anyone, even in the LaLa Land of Bike Forums.

"That Giant dealer"'s alleged statement, whoever he/she may be, is certainly consistent with Giant USA's FAQ (emphasis added):

"12. What are the retail prices of Giant bicycles?
The bikes listed on our website show the U.S. average retail price. Prices may be lower or higher by region due to transit and other handling costs. Check exact prices with your local dealers. To find your nearest Giant retailer, go to Giant Bicycles | Official site, choose USA, and then click on Store Finder on the home page. You will be taken to our Dealer Locator where you can simply type in your city or zip code and the locator will find your nearest Giant retailer.

Do not worry about whether you got a "deal" or not. Simply ask if you like and want the bike enough to pay the price being asked. If so, it's a "fair" price. If not, then don't buy it regardless of whether or not you're getting a "deal." The "fair" price in any transaction is determined by both a willing seller and and a willing buyer.

I still look at this as MSRP, with a disclaimer for shipping cost. At the very least, the dealer was trying to be misleading to the customer. Perhaps to try to gouge them for more?

I still stand by my statement - being less than truthful, and to be avoided. Perhaps he was a used car salesman in another life. 70 years of experience, leads me in this direction. MHO

Or perhaps it wasn't a dealer at all. As I already stated a few posts back, my information came from this forum... probably someone citing the same information from Giant's website as badger1 did.

Strange that I feel the need to defend the honor of someone who doesn't even exist!

Sorry but I don't think your comment is apples to apples.
Trek Fuel EX is not a low demand bike.

I bought a Cannondale Quick 4 , for $650 three weeks ago ................ and I'm gettin ready to buy my Wife a Trek Lexa womens road bike for $700.

Its the time of year.

But I'm regretting the Quick 4, wish I'd bought a road bike.

Guess it depends on what your definition is of "readily available".

The bike would have to be ordered and then I would have to wait a week or so for it to come in.

Never heard of this in the bike world. C'dale gave us baseball caps and work shirts,KHS gave us t-shirts. But those were so we'd wear them and promote the brand. Also doubt many bike shops have their sales staff work on commission.

But unlike cars, most bikes don't arrive anywhere set up, adjusted and ready to ride. And the end result depends on the skills of the mechanic.
I just had a newish bike come into my free clinic today. Had not been set up properly. B screw wasn't set, neither V brake was balanced. Doubt the BB or headset had been checked. At my shop,we go pretty much above and beyond. All non-press fit BB's get pulled/greased/taped. Headsets all get greased. We even grease the stem and faceplate bolts. We make certain that everything on the bike is correct and that the buyer won't have future issues. And you'd be amazed at how many brand new bikes come out of the box with issues.
