Buying Advice - Crosstrail Chainset replacement.
Some buying advice please. I have a Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc 2011 which I bought second hand a couple of years ago.
Recently, the chain slips if I put the power down heavily. I believe this suggests the crankset/chainset needs replacing but I don't know what will be compatible with the existing shifters etc.
I'd like to change the chainset, chain, B/Bracket(Probably) and cassette.
Below is the current specification. Can anyone suggest a good value and decent spec replacement please?
TIA,
tezza73uk.
Speed: 24
Shifters: Shimano, SL-M310, 8-speed rapid fire
Front Mech: Shimano FD-M191, 31.8mm clamp, top swing, dual pull
Rear Mech: Shimano Acera, 8-speed
Chainset: SR SunTour Octalink spline, replaceable rings, w/composite anti-jump disc, 48 x 38 x 28T w/ chainguard
Bottom Bracket: Octalink spline 68mm
Chain: KMC Z8 w/ reusable Missing Link
Cassette: SRAM 8-speed, 11-32t

Hi, and welcome. The crankset/chainrings likely do not need replacing, but it is possible that you need a new chain and cassette. Any 6/7/8 speed chain will work, and any 8-speed cassette will work. I personally like the KMC X series chains (X8.93 or X8.99 for your application). Shimano and Sram both make cassettes will work interchangeably. Choose based on price and availability.
