in the Race Face lineup - the Race Face Ride pedal might be a better choice ... it’s a fairly lightweight (315-320g - pair) nylon / composite pedal with raised studs

Some of my favorite pedals are ones like the RF Chesters with the pins removed. I've bought several sets of these -- I have one genuine pair of RF Chesters, and two or three pairs of ones similar to Chesters but not true knock-offs from Amazon. I prefer the largest and widest pedal I can get (I like to pedal with my 12W Keen sandals) and these pinned platform pedals are usually the right size -- but I don't want or need the pins on most of my bikes. I do have them installed on my fat bike, where I'm more likely to be riding in more aggressive shoes in snow or off-road, but I usually don't want the pins on my other bikes. It takes 10-15 tedious minutes of removing them, but you're left with a smooth and flat pedal afterwards.

You can, of course, buy dedicated smooth/flat pedals. I tend to buy the pinned ones because they're pretty ubiquitous on the internet and pretty inexpensive...I just remove the pins when I get them.

Wow 😯 The BBInfinite bottom bracket arrived yesterday and I opened it up this morning. The bearings are smooth and quiet. I’ve worked with many automotive, agricultural, and industrial bears and these are the next level. Now to order the crank and get ready for the installation!

Well, I pulled the trigger on the R7000 105 crank with 50/34 rings. I've earned some rewards points from Cambria with this transaction that I'll used for additional 105 goodies...

yeah ... $75 ... I’d say that was reasonable !

I ordered a Park Tools BBT-69.4 to aid in the crank and bottom bracket upgrades. I still holding out for a discount code/sale for the newer 105 derailleurs. The chain has about 200 miles on it and the rear cassette still looks good so I'll leave it alone. I also need to look at the brake pads while it is apart.

Now I need get rid of moving boxes and clean up a workspace in the basement.

Hey Travis, First, Happy New years and thank you for this thread. It's giving me some ideas on what to do with mine as well.

But lets be honest, I have no clue what your talking about on most of the parts other than when you post pictures lol I am thinking of going completely different way than you in going to new wheels and tires first, I am a weenie and need the bike to be lighter and more off road capable. But I am definitely watching and learning with interest on your venture.

Railman - I'll take good pictures and document the process for you. There is a weight savings with the crank upgrade so I'll try to remember to weigh the parts when I do the swap.

I've considered an upgrading to a lighter wheel set but am not sure where to begin. I've also considered titanium bars/stem but that's MUCH later down the road.

Multiple options available. Plenty of DIY videos on youtube or hit up the LBS. All the youtube stuff looks uber easy to me but I do most of my own auto repairs including brake/engine work so I'm a bit biased.

With unseasonably warm weather, I decided to go for a ride. I got the Q1 down from ceiling storage in the garage, aired up the tires, and headed towards the street only to find no rear brakes. I knew the brakes needed bled when I put it up and planned to do it this winter so I guess I'll check pads while It is on the stand for the crank swap.

Fortunately the Specialized S-Works M2 was up for the task and I picked up almost 9 miles today. I swapped the lights over, aired up the tires, and it was read to hit the trail. #idratherhavediscs

I really like them. I'd make some changes to my install process if I did them again. Might add them to my wife's Verve 3 when things warm up.

Ordered some Park Tools grease for the install and picked up a set of RaceFace Turbine bars using the REI $30 new member gift card that was received with my daughter's bike. The bars are lighter than the originals on the bike and have some rise. Both should be here by the weekend so I may start the project on Saturday.
