Need more Back sweep handle bars
I have a "91 Miyata Quick Cross and I've decided between experiencing wrist discomfort and watching YouTube videos that I need a handle bar with more back sweep.
Dial caliper shows the present handle bar is 25.4mm diameter and there is very little back sweep with the current bar, it's pretty close to straight.
I have Ergon GP-1 grips and Cane Creek bar ends.
Trying to figure out how much back sweep to have (on the replacement handle bar), and if I should get something with a little rise to it as well. Stem is at its highest, so there is room to come down with it, if needed. I see some replacement bars that are pretty extreme on the back sweep. I don't think I need a lot, but don't know for sure, that's just a guess.
I ride daily, pretty vigorously for about an hour, on pavement and my wrist/ fingers get rather uncomfortable and numb. It's tolerable but why not improve on hand position and save all the discomfort for my butt and legs .
Any recommendations on sweep degrees and affordable brands (& model of brand) will be greatly appreciated
. I'm thinking aluminum makes the most sense.
All input welcome.
Many Thanks.
John

34˚ is the sweet spot for me. Koga Denham in 25.4 would be the way to go (as the Velo Orange Crazy Bars are 31.8) however you will want to swap to the Ergon GC-1 grips because they are designed for swept back bars.
I have both of those handle bars and they are the bee knees and the cats pajama's all rolled into one.

If possible, go to a bike shop and try putting your hands on to any swept back bars you see, whether they are alone or attached to a bike. You might notice that a particular angle feels more comfortable to you. I tend to find 45˚ or more to be comfortable.
Swept back bars are often more comfortable when the grip section of the bar is pointed down slightly, so it may be worth it to get a set of bars with rise even if you don't think you need the height.
Your existing grips might be fine with a swept back bar. With a 45˚ Velo Orange Klunker bar, the GC-1 feels more comfortable to me, on a no-name set of bars with around 55˚ of sweep the GP-1 actually feels more comfortable, with Rivendell/Nitto Bosco bars at 78˚ the GC-1 is more comfortable. Your hands might feel differently.
Bar ends might not be very useful or comfortable on a set of swept back bars when placed at the end of the bar, but traditional bar-ends can still add a nice hand position if put closer to the center of the bar. I wouldn't expect a set of Cane Creek bar ends to be great on a swept back bar, though I haven't actually tried it. Some bars don't even need bar ends to get an extra hand position, with the 55˚ and 78˚ bars I can rest my elbows on the grips and grab near the stem to get a position that is quite aero, but also doesn't put pressure on the hands.
Wald, Origin8, Dimension, and Velo Orange have some models that are more affordable. I have come across a few Walds that don't have a long enough grip section to fit grips, brake levers, and trigger shifters very well, so watch out for that if your shifters are mounted on the bars.

My very favorite swept bar is Velo-Orange’s Tourist Bar. It has enough sweep that my knees are inside the ends, and not so wide I feel at risk of face-planting into the stem. Good luck.

Another option is the Kalloy UNO AL-030 bar. 34-ish degrees of sweep, maybe 50mm rise, and about 20 bucks. If you get the black version it is 610mm wide, so a little wider than a regular flat bar.
Or the Bontrager Satellite bar. I have one of these and several AL-030, and they are so close as to be almost identical.
If you go to bikeman.com, shop categories/components/handlebar/cruiser/multi-position handlebars you'll see about 7 pages of options. At page 3 they begin to get affordable.
Bikeman.com is a good shop; I've ordered from them several times with good success.
