Maybe you're having deja vu? hahaha

What do you guys think? Is $400 a fair value or should I try talking him down a little more. The wheelset looks really nice though. And the bike looks brand new. I'm going to go see it Sunday.

Here's my bike that I bought a couple weeks ago. It's the first bike I've had in 10+ years. I finally went on a bike ride yesterday and it was awesome.

I think she's dumping the pig because the wheels ARE NOT RED. Look at the skewers, they are red and they clash angrily with the so called red wheels. Even if you are OK with burnt sienna wheels, the price seems a little high for used. 'Like new' is used, there has got to be a bigger mark down than $50 off list price. Don't forget to subtract the price of the missing wheels when figuring the value of this ride. Don't add the price of the wheelset to the price of a COMPLETE bike.

If you get it, put some black (or white!) QRs on it, the red looks horrible with the copper colored hubs.

I called the bike shop that was on the sticker on the frame of that bike. They said they are out of 2009. For 2010 models, they are asking $499 + tax. I think I'll go in to see if I can see if I can get it for $450 + tax (which should be around $500 out the door).

How negotiable are most bike shops? Will they be offended if I offer $450 for a bike that has a sticker that states $499?

Bike-shops don't make much money on selling new bicycles. So you are, in essence, asking the shop to further reduce it's profit margin. And the shop has many hidden expenses that must be met - rent, heat, electric, worker-wages, etc. And this on a new bicycle - a discount? What is the MSRP?

The MSRP is $520 according to Specialized.com

The shop has the bike listed as $499 + tax. You're right, I guess asking $450 + tax is pushing it a little.....

gmsdc15, how did you calculate the CL bike to be only a $50 discount? He's listed it for $425. I think $400 is a reason offer without disrespecting him.

If that's the case, I would be saving about $150 (compared to buying new). I also get the upgraded (????) red wheels. I'm assuming the red wheelset is better than the stock Alex wheelset?

Not really sure what to do.

I was just goofing on the wheel color. I wasn't trying to give any good advice. This is not the thread to have this discussion.

I don't think you would offend anyone, but I don't think they have a lot of margin to play with on the bikes. They might give you breaks on the accessories, lights, locks, helmet, etc. if you are buying a bike.

If Craig's bike is worth $499 + tax + wheel upgrade = $650 maybe? If he will take $350, that might be reasonable. It looks nice, I didn't mean to turn you off to the idea.

Purchase from store gives you warranty and probably some free tune-ups.

The bike is beautiful. I thought the rims were wood at first glance. Get it and post more pictures of it here, without all that nasty clutter.

Based on MikeS report of 450 list and your figure of 400. Of course the wheels add value, so the $50 off comment was disingenuous. I was just yanking your chain. It looks like a lot of bike for 4 bills to tell you the truth, except it's used goods which traditionally meant at least 40% off, but times are changing I guess.

I just sold this bike. It was an "Eddie Bauer Edition" I bought off craigslist for $20 two years ago. Wasn't exactly a steal, needed some new bearings and other components. It was maybe a tad more mountain bike-ish than most hybrids. Even had a soft taill, spring located behind the seat post. I wanted something a little lighter, this had a very heavy frame. Kinda wish I hadn't painted over the original paint job. The color was nice but that EDDIE BAUER made me feel really comfortable. My new bike isn't finished yet. Once I get it all together I'll post some pics.

it's a dsogn.

they haven't given up on 650b....they just make their bikes to be really versatile. this frame will take up to about a 2.1" 29er tire with ease. i run 38s on it. their new ones look to be able to take an even wider tire on a 700c rim.

they've got a tall head tube for folks who like to run drops and don't want a ton of spacers.....but i like a more upright position.

this frame replaced the fisher kaitai (broke the chainstay) for me.

Just built this up for my friend who wants to winter ride as much as possible and think this bike that was recently a road bike is now quite the nice hybrid.

I put it through it's paces today what with all the snow and slush we have and found myself wishing this was my bike... it's light, fast, and sticks like glue to the roads. The front tire is studded... thankfully.
