I recently got back from a 34 mile ride. It was my first longer ride since I sprained my ankle, and it went well. There was one section of my route that was blocked off for road construction that was a pain, though. The detour took me on an incredibly busy 45mh speed limit (cars traveling 50-55mph) 5 lane road--the road where there are two malls, 4 McDonalds restaurants and 2 of everything else within 4 miles, etc. The detour took me about 2 miles, but I was able to sustain 25mph (using my drop bar ends) and took the right lane. Thankfully I didn't have any issues, but I don't know if it's something that I will do again. I'm normally not one to be timid when it comes to street riding, but that 2 miles as something else!

Anyway, the ride was great overall. The fiancee and I are planning on going out for a ride tomorrow, as well. It sure is nice to be back on the bike!

Just got back from a 15 mile ride on the Bay Trail. I also hit the fastest speed I have ever hit on the flats - 27mph. I was able to sustain it for quite a bit too, but then I saw a family of 4 on the MUP and slowed down. My first real bike rocks :D

Kites! This guy was rather happy to be photographed - he did a series of jumps when he saw me taking photos with the camera. Unfortunately, I didn't do such a good job with the camera.

Crawfordvj, what bike is that? and what tires?
@Igo The bike is a Trek FX 7100 with the paint and anodized parts stripped and polished. The front tyre is a Tioga 28c. Can't read or find the model on the side. I replaced one tyre because it had small splits on the tread where the rubber had perished , with a 35c Vittoria Randonneur Cross. Will do the same with the front when that one wears out.

More pics of the bike are near the bottom of this page in the "Photos of your Hybrid" thread.

Thanks for the comments.

Did the Canal ride between Deerfield and Turners Falls in Western Mass - not very challenging but pleasant - stopped for an ice coffee and spent time watching the swans in Barton's cove.

FINALLY back in the saddle after 3 weeks of healing a monster saddle sore and fighting off a terrible summer cold.

31.9 miles on the infamous Henry Hudson drive to the Palisades.

http://astoriahd.blogspot.com/2012/0...319-miles.html

These 2 clips are much longer than my usual length. I thought it would be nice to show larger chunks of the route, some of it should be interesting....

Riding from the Triboro Bridge to 125th Street Harlem.

Riding from 177th Street over the George Washington Bridge to the entrance of Palisades Park

Here is a full album of panoramic pictures on my facebook page.

And a few for those who won't visit the album on facebook....

Fallen Rock Zone

I have always had a kid like fascination with approaching metropolitan skylines, much like a kid has a fascination with airplanes. Tho I spend very little time vacationing in cities, I pay as much attention to where and how other people live as much as I can in passing. I love your trails but show my your rivers, parks and skyline too. You had a picture of fallen rock. It just left a great taste for wanting to see the rest of the park.
What I find bizarre about some of these videos is that with such a huge population density, the trails aren't anymore crowded than they are. It's the same way here, I mean, it's not as densely populated but often times our very well groomed trails are virtually empty.... thank goodness...I get them all to myself.
Keep up the good work.

Igo 07-22-12 10:45 AM

I also have to ask, How are you able to pick up your voice on these videos so effortlessly? And how do you do it without picking up wind noise?
I am a still photographer but video is new to me. I have two Contour HD cameras and I've had a lot of fun with them but it is nearly impossible to narrate while under way.
One last thing, how are you shooting the panoramics? Stitching hardware in a camera? What camera? I've been shooting panos for years but they tale very careful planning and great effort. This is something I can't do from my bicycle as it requires a tripod and dSLR cameras and remote shutter releases.

BridgeNotTunnel 07-22-12 03:09 PM

Thanks for watching Igo.

I tend to pick less populated trails to ride on, if you ride on the West side bike path it's often much more crowded.

I use an external lapel microphone plugged into my GoPro Hero 2, it has a windjammer (a furry ball that goes around the microphone to block wind noise) and is mounted in a hole in my helmet, therefore it picks up my voice quite well.

I recently bought a Droid Razor Maxx which stitches panoramic pictures together automatically.

Modern technology has reduced camera gear into very small components indeed!

:D

25 miles of a "nothing special" ride, ie: we just head out and go hither and yon, LOL! Split a excellent roast beef sandwich at East Coast Deli, plus yummie coleslaw with the wife, then rode some of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail here in Colorado Springs, just a nice day to RIDE! :)

I now have 3 HiDef video cameras and none have external microphone jacks. I can't believe I didn't get a camera equipped that way. I even have a very nice external mic from my old tape video cam.
I picked up the new Galaxy S3 phone a couple weeks ago. I makes panos easy but they just don't compare to the dSLR/tripod method. It does a wonderful job for what it is though.
Here's a hi tec pano i did a couple years ago. I can't wait 'til it cools down enough to give this new Samsung a try out on the trails.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=262937Glorious summer in New England weather has returned & I'm out there every day again. Today's ride was to & around Lake Holbrook for an easy pleasant 11 miles. It could have been longer if I got lost in the Grove as it's called. It's a small lake surrounded with modest homes (converted summer cottages) and some newer houses all on tiny lots with narrow roads that go everywhere but out.

Igo 07-22-12 08:36 PM

I miss summers like that. I have to look forward to winter to get summers like that. LOL.

Amazing picture, Igo!

HhAhhahaa. I reality it's about a foor and a half tall and 9 feet wide. 9 photographs.
Anyway, a great place to ride bikes.

Sweet, planning on taking my bike on our upcoming Destin FL trip next month. Can't wait to do some beach-side riding!

SHOFINE 07-24-12 06:08 AM

Yea, I bet you'll enjoy riding the flat roads for a change.

bikecrate 07-24-12 08:41 AM

I went on a little vacation to the east coast of FL near New Smyrna Beach.
This was in a little Veterans memorial park. I’m thinking it might be good to tow a howitzer behind me in case I have trouble with drivers.

Riding around Canaveral National Seashore as well.

I got away from my normal routine this morning (15 mile route that I usually do on weekdays) and went for a 23 mile ride. I worked in a lot of off-trail riding (almost 10 miles worth). All I could think of was what my fiancee is missing out on by sticking to the paved trails. Hopefully I can convince her to give it a shot soon!

At any rate, I even took a couple of pictures this time. I haven't taken many because I never have my camera with me, so I have to use my cell phone's camera. The good news is that I have ordered a large top tube bag that should be able to hold my camera, snacks, etc. I'm really looking forward to getting that in the mail!

cool owl!

Unfortunately I haven't ridden in nearly a week. Had a lot going on over the weekend and it's been just too blasted hot. Plus I don't have a good enough light to do any real night riding.

Dodgensince74 07-27-12 07:41 PM

went for a group ride this morning that started at 5:30 which was billed as a 25 mile round trip ride. It kicked my butt the last 5 or so miles, I haven't hardly ridden in over 6 months and boy did it show. This was the first time in a long time that I wished for red lights in the last part of a ride and I didn't get any:cry:. When I got to the truck and loaded my bike the rear tire felt very soft but didn't think anything about it, when I got home and unloaded the bike the rear tire was flat. I'm blaming the exhausting last 5 or so miles on my rear tire being low on air:thumb: and not me being out of condition:rolleyes:.

PatrickGSR94 07-27-12 09:05 PM

Finally got on the bike this evening with my son in the trailer. Had a little break in the heat. Rode about 5.5 miles around the neighborhood.

SHOFINE 07-28-12 02:09 AM

Got me 2 consecutive days of riding my new boat bike out to Fourchon Beach and the docks.
