I decided to go to the base hardware and sports stores; however, due to space restrictions here in Germany they aren't actually in our housing development or the base itself, but another military plot of land about 6 miles away by car. I decided to ride my bike out there, but i didnt want to use my normal commuting route + the rest of the trails to get to the stores. Instead, I decided to take a slightly longer path. I found:

A goat farm/small petting zoo/playground

A cool looking winery in the middle of a bike path that offers spiced wine every weekend. Definitely going to go back.

A Lamborghini on the way back. I have to roll through a town on the very last bit of the way back, and I follwed him through most of the stoplights until he parked. He was obviously worried about me overtaking him, so he ceded victory. Snapped a quick picture to show my win  .

Saturday I rode around the MemFix event in Midtown Memphis, a local urban renewal sort of "what if" community event, showing what the area could look like in a few years with a lot of work and community involvement. They put down temporary bike lanes for 2 blocks along the length of the event... and then cars promptly parked right in them. :crash: I called out a few people on it as they were trying to park there. Some of them moved on, but others really had an attitude towards me as if to say "I don't give a F I'll park here if I want to". Stupid, idiot selfish Memphians is all I can say, thinking only of themselves.

This pic went straight onto the MemFix organizers' Facebook page.

My fourth ride - still on my 3.1 mile run up the Paradise bike trail. This time, however, I only needed to dismount once. Last time, it was three times. Raised seat height to get proper leg extension, downshifted prior to the hills. I'm starting to get it! Tomorrow will be 5.1 miles - up to the next cross-street. Loving it. Really can't believe I waited so long.

Just riding around the neighborhood this morning. This pic was taken in an unfinished housing development I was exploring. Did 11 miles, which I was pretty happy with, and maybe got in a little practice for cyclo-cross. :D

23 miles with the wife, on a really nice partly cloudy November day, here in Colorado Springs, CO. Mainly city streets and our favorite rail trail path: Midland Trail from America the Beautiful Park to Manitou Springs. :)

mine took me for a 25 mile loop along the river levy bike trail, along the west cliff path, and out the bike path to Wilder Ranch, then around the bluff trail... and back

this was on the Wilder Bluff trail...

A little over 25 miles today riding the bike path near me. Something I read a few months back always stuck with me. People pay money to drive to the gym to ride an exercise bike. They don't know what they are missing.

I participated in a Bicycle Second Line Parade of about 250 bikes led by a brass band here in New Orleans. If you aren't familiar with what a second line is, here's some info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_line_(parades)

I took a quick little video of how the 10 mile ride around New Orleans was following behind the band as they played. They led the way on a utility trailer pulled by a truck. We also had NOPD motorcycle officers monitor the entire ride. I also included two other pics during the ride. Slow cruise sort of ride, nothing very challenging but fun.

I've taken a break from filming my rides, but I plan to bring my GoPro and audio gear on my European vacation which starts next week.

27 miles from Astoria to Hicksville Saturday to watch the UFC, and sleep at my friends apartment.

Next day we went and picked up the new Nintendo system the Wii U, which is really great fun.

Later that evening, 27 miles back from Hicksville to Astoria.

Riding through the Brooklyn/Queens Greenway at night is a beautiful experience.

Not another soul was on the MUP as I rolled through patches of light and dark, my Cateye illuminating the debris still strewn about from hurricaine Sandy.

ONE MORE WEEK AND I WILL BE RIDING IN AMSTERDAM!!!11@! Sorry.... sorry....

Sounds awesome... you'll be renting a bike there I assume, or packing your bike in a box?

Saturday I took the yellow bike out for its first group ride since August. 11 miles around town with music from the leader's trailer. This was Cranksgiving 2012 benefiting the local food bank. Super fun times were had by all. Other people did an alleycat race, and then met back at the starting area for pizza and bike polo.

Me and the yellow beast, along with a friend who had never been on this sort of ride before. She loved it.

....

My hotel is only a few blocks from where a cluster of bike shops are located, though it would be super cool to have my faithful "Ethel" beneath me in Amsterdam and Limburg. I did consider bringing my pedals and seat but in the interest of traveling lighter I am only bringing my helmet and all weather riding gear.

In Limburg, my uncle (an avid cyclist as well) owns 3 bikes and says he has a bike he thinks will fit me well enough (though I am skeptical because he is quite a bit shorter than me).

Strangely I could not easily locate a bike shop in Limburg that rents bikes with a cursory google search. If needs be I'm sure my uncle and cousin can help me find a rental nearby.

I will be in Europe for a total of 30 days and will have 3 cameras to record images from my rides. I will likely post some pics on location but I will also have a lot to share when I return.

Too freakin' excited!

PatrickGSR94 11-19-12 09:51 PM

30 days whoa, all vacation or some business?

BridgeNotTunnel 11-19-12 10:38 PM

All vacation!

:D

Most of the time will be spent in Germany, where I plan to ride as much as possible.

PatrickGSR94 11-20-12 12:10 AM

Awesome. I came close to that. I was in Eastern Europe for nearly 3 weeks in August 2005. Most amazing trip ever.

Our family's live about as far south in GA as can be....just 1/2 hr north of Tallahassee. But with my job it's great to get Thanksgiving home! I miss so many holidays and BD's being at work....then again it's always a vacation when I come home!
