Nice patrick.... When I see Einfahrt, or Ausfahrt I think "one fart" or "outside fahrt". Fahrt jokes!

Today I rode 50 miles on Radweg 7 from Limburg to Weilburg and back with my cousin.

Light snow fell last night and earlier in the day. The path was ok though I took one minor fall and my cousin took 2 minor falls. He had a lot of trouble keeping up with me and we averaged only 11.5 mph.The weird mountain bike he has features brakes UNDER the frame. Apparently this caused a snow mud mixture to freeze a brick around the brake assembly and the wheel (which we didn't notice until the end of the ride of course). I can only imagine it was like riding a bike wih brakes applied the whole time....

The scenery was breathtaking. Like cyling through the backdrop of a Frank Frazetta painting.

Here a shot from my Fuji. No GoPro today though (some of this route I shot 2 days before). We plan to ride this route at least once again before I go, and the GoPro will be in attendance.

I've seen some top end road bikes with the rear brake hidden underneath the chain stays for aero purposes. But an ice/slush buildup around that would still be a lot more slippery than brake pads. Shouldn't affect riding too much but absolutely would be detrimental to braking performance. How did the front brake hold up during that?

Interestingly that "Gute Fahrt" pic was from even before I bought my KHS bike in 2006, before I even started to give a second thought to any kind of cycling. I'm sure there were many people cycling when I visited Eastern Europe, but back then I totally wasn't paying attention to that. I was more interested in what kinds of cars they have over there, and the architecture of the buildings. Maybe a couple girls here and there (was before I met my wife).

Actually yesterday, a cool +2 C (36F) on the Lynn Valley Trail. (Port Dover to Simcoe ON). Surface was a little wet in spots but good to get out on the trail. I have been riding the streets to keep out of the mud and grime. The views on the trail are more open in the late fall when the leaves are gone.

I rode 10 miles from West Seattle's Alki Point OW to Queen Anne Hill's Kerry Park viewpoint of the Space Needle and downtown Seattle. Took some pictures. Then I met my youngest daughter for Lunch at "Buckley's Pub On Queen Anne" for some blackened salmon sandwiches, mmmmm! No rain and a great ride, except for going up Queen Anne Hill!

I went on a 30ish mile route around New Orleans, LA again today on my Cannondale Quick 4. I'm getting close to the 1,000 mile mark on this bike but I don't let her show signs of aging. I make sure to clean it up after each ride. Anywho. I took a ride to the French Quarter then to the Lake Pontchartrain lakefront and back home. Here are a few shots.

Here's a shot with the bike in it's most current configuration. Got a shot of a pelican in the background.

I was able to get a closer shot of the pelican when another one just like is swooped in for the shot.

Feeding the pigeons while taking my break at Woldenberg Park on the levee of the Mississippi in the French Quarter.

Here's a screen shot of my MapMyRide app showing my route.

Nice..hoping to do some of that soon.

A couple a months ago on the way to work I had to take a detour from the 310 bridge on River Rd and cross the Huey Long. As I was traveling along River Rd I couldn't help but notice how cool it would be to ride the levy...the sun hadn't made it up at the time and didn't know if they let you do that. I just Google Earthed it and saw that it's the Trail! Do you do much riding on it? The only time I see the River is when crossing bridges or when running a boat up to Venice from the gulf.

I don't do too much levee riding. It's nice and all but I'm not crazy about the scenery as most of it looks the same. A lot of roadies love it because it goes all the way from the fly behind Audubon Zoo all the way to Norco pretty much. So it makes for a nice long route. I just prefer the urban jungle type riding. Lots to see and hear but more risk since you're sharing the road with cars. However, I stick to the roads I feel comfortable on and there are some dedicated bike lanes I frequent.

Been out riding in the cold weather as much as I can. I logged 32 miles today with temps in the low 40s and winds in the mid teens. Save for my cold toes, it was a good ride. I added a couple miles of unpaved trail to my regular 30 mile route to change things up a bit.

Coldest ride so far was a couple days ago when it was about 30 degrees--it might be chilly, but it still beats riding the trainer!

I really like the look of the CDale Quick 4. I was wondering how those rims are holding up after 1000 miles? They look schweet but I wonder if a 250 body might be too much for the spokes to hold?

They are as good as new and I'm about 195 and don't exactly baby them as I ride on some pretty bumpy roads here in New Orleans.

the levee trails here are pretty nice. its about 2 miles on either side of the lower san lorenzo river, all level, paved, and the river is pretty scenic. each highway bridge, there's a paved bicycle underpass, there's also a pedestrian bridge between the small park behind the civic center and downtown, and there's a pedestrian/bike bridge hung on the side of the old railway trestle across the mouth of the river at the boardwalk.

I tend to sprint those 2 miles, and haven't done much stopping for pictures, but the lower river is in the backdrop of these....

my normal 15 mile loop goes down one bank of the river, across the trestle, then past the boardwalk, and along the West Cliff bikepath to Natural Bridges State Park, around behind NBSP and down to Longs Marine Lab, around their bluff, and back pretty much the same route, but I return on the other river bank. if I do this in an hour, its a pretty good workout considering the sort of shape I'm in (208 lbs down from 230)

Pierce, those are some nice shots. The levee here in New Orleans doesn't look quite the same but it is 21 miles long and all paved which is why roadies love it.

I did my longest ride yet yesterday: 10.1 miles. I've had my Trek now 5 weeks and at the beginning couldn't do 3 miles. A combination of new seat, tougher butt, better pedals and some learned technique has really helped in the endurance department.

Started at 1825', went for 1.25m to 1705', then 6.3m to 2205', the rest from there on a different route back to home at 1825'. I don't know what's considered steep or tough, but for a 51-year-old, 225lbs, riding for just over a month, I'm pretty darn happy.

I do wish I'd done a couple things different on the bike: probably would get an FX now instead of a DS. Certainly would have done a different bar than the composite Iso-Zone one. The LBS sales guy even said I should re-think the bar change. I don't listen well. The bar was supposed - and does - to reduce vibration and hand numbness, but it's made in a way the precludes use of any bar-end attachment. So no mirrors or bar-ends. (unhappy face) Oh well.

On the plus, I originally wanted an MTB-geared crankset since they usually have a 22 low end, instead of the 26 on mine. What I found yesterday is that I went into 1st gear only once (which is normal - I do it for the entire uphill!) and only for about 200 yards. By the time I reached the top of my climb portion, I was either in 5th or 6th. Spent most of the time yesterday figuring out that going up a few gears is actually easier on me than riding in 1st the whole trip.

That's great progress and I wish I had some climbs around here. My riding is nearly 100% flat, below sea level and the only inclines I see are bridges going over canals and such. My biggest enemy is the wind that we get being so close to the Gulf of Mexico and off if Lake Pontchartrain. Keep it up. Seeing your mileage increase is a great motivator.

More Rad(weg) Germanic mileage in the last couple of days.

Meh.

Nothing to see here.....

My uncle described this bike he lent me as a "cross bike outfitted for touring".

It's all hybrid to me I guess.

My longest ride yet: 13.3 miles. 1440' of ascent. 1:32 ride time. I had promised myself by the end of next month I would complete this exact loop. At each point that I could turn around, I said, eh, let's see if I can make the next landmark. I only stopped cause I ran outta trail! Looks like it's time to start on the fire trails. Of course, the National Weather Service just issued a bulletin letting us know four storms are coming, back to back with no break and we should expect 1-2' of snow, even where we live. So I'll be doing that fire trail stuff next week. Or next year.

Hey BJ...Being a full time commuter, how do you handle the effects of road salt on your bike? Do you rebuild in the spring due to corrosion? thx

DocsDad, LOL, I'm a WHIMP, I'm a full time "utility rider", I'm med. retried so I can "pick" the days I ride, the weather channel and I are great friends! IF I was a full time commuter, I'd have an Alum. framed beater bike with a spare set of wheel's for "studded tires". The best thing for road salt is to "wash it off asap", living in a 3rd. story, one bedroom apt. I don't know how but, I'd probably put the bike in the bath tube and shower it off. There is a product that you can have put in a "steel" frame to control rust, can't remember the name though? The longer you leave the "crud" on non-alloy parts the faster it's going to rust, for me I'd never pay a lot of money for a "winter commuter" bike so I could buy used and replace it often, jmho, ymmv.

Did our Country Path Ramble this weekend (it's an informal annual ride with a few friends). This year's ride was 48 miles, the majority of which was on stone/gravel farm roads. Someone got a decent pic of me during the ride

My steed, on top of the (local) world

Fellow BFer Yo Spiff taking better pictures than I do (in the red and black)

and during the ride

And one pic of most of the group
