I doubt there is ONE. Some people like them wide and wider. Others take out their hacksaws and have at. My bars on my hybrid are 24" at present. They are fine - but I have a Trekking-Bar on the way so this may change...
...Off to experiment. Come Igor.

As a general rule your bars should correspond with your shoulder width so that your arms stay parallel with your torso when your hands are placed on the grips.
Some like a little wider as this can help with climbing and others may narrow their bars to get a little more aero.

I don't mind the width on my bar now,it allows me to have more area to rest my hands on. Panthers007, i asked you a question in another thread but i guess you didn't notice, the grips you have on your bike, is that a bar end ? if so, how do you wrap ur hands around them? they look kinda short for the whole hand.

Oh! I thought I'd answered that. Must have been distracted. The grips are Ergon GC2. And they don't take a whole hand. But I can hook finger or thumbs on 'em and such to vary my hand-positions. I like 'em. But Ergon makes others that don't have "The Horns" as I call them.
