Redline R540
Hi I'v been combing the forums but haven't found anything about this bike at all. I recently spotted one on craigslist for $180 and was wondering what some of guys thought of it as a commuter bike? The components appear to be mostly SRAM (which I have had good experiences with) and Alex wheels.
Main thing I am looking for is dependability. Parts/frame need to be strong and reliable. The area I am riding in doesn't have too many hills and the roads are of decent quality. Only thing I would add to the bike is fenders and lights. I tried searching online but couldn't really find any reviews on it either? My budget is $200 or less (yes I know, tiny budget) and this is going to be an every day commuter/beater bike.

Redline bikes are good, dependable bikes. The R540 originally sold for $540 new (2008). If the bike is in good shape then I'd go for it. Since you're using it as a commuter, look to see if the bike has the features you may want or need for commuting -- like rack mounts (I didn't see any in the online pics), component wear, frame cracks, etc.

Did you ask about it in the Commuting forum?

I'm not too worried about rack mounts, I'll be using a backpack for my stuff. And my commute is pretty short anyway, about 2 miles each way. Hopefully the bike is in good shape, the guy said he didn't ride it very much.
Haven't asked in the commuting forum yet either, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to go for it though.
