They all have carbon fork for more comfort, the 7.5 is only 9 speed and has 28c tires.

Go with the least expensive bike! That's going to be the most fun bike! That's going to be the Bad Boy 9!

Everybody who has one, is nuts about it!

If nothing else, just test-ride it!

Nashbar still has some 17" 2010 Fuji Absolute 1.0's. Heck of a bike for the price, full Shimano 105 but you should buy one frame size larger than normal. It's literally a road bike frame with flat handle bars on it so it's a fairly aggressive geometry for a hybrid.

There's no way I'd leave a $2100 bike locked up outside on a daily basis. Even if the theft risk is low the bike would look like crap after a few months. I personally would go for the 7.5FX or even 7.4FX for a commuter bike. IMO the 7.7FX does not offer a good value for the level of components installed.

Thanks all ... Well, today I am leaning toward the Bad Boy 1 ( one ). It's a lot cheaper than the 7.7 FX. I hope the dealer will let the BB1 go for $1500 out the door, but I would have to add better dampening style grips, a better seat, and maybe better pedals, and add a rear Rack. I agree the 7.7 is way to much $ for what you get. I like the bad Boy 1 because it's unique, with their one fork and that shock seems like it would last a long time. I understand the disc brakes are so so. The hand brakes fit right in my index finger and the bike flys along effortlessley. However the BB-1's ride is harsher than the FX line ... Of course the FX has the CF fork and dampening gizmos.

My friends say go with Trek because their customer service is better, and it's the last 100% American owned Bike company. As you know, Cannondale, the original owners fire sold the company in early 2000s because of a devestating call to enter the motorcycle market, and that was a financial suicide for the original Cannondale owners, or so I heard.

People also add if I wanted to change the stem, or if the shock failed or the disc brakes broke, I would be SOL ( sh*t out of luck ) .... I heard parts take a week or more show up at the dealer. Is that true?

Dunbar, I will call around for the Fuji you linked. Thx.

Thanks Again.

Dunbar: The Fuji you recommended here: https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...9#ReviewHeader

It's listed as 17 inches. Is that a Med or Large?

That's a good deal on that Fuji -- Maybe I should pull the trigger on that?

Thanks everyone.

Don't look at the size so much like medium or large. Look up the geometry or sizing charts of teh bikes you've tried and compare the effective or horizontal top tube distances of the bikes to see if it's suitable. Nashbar doesn't have a sizing chart, you'll have to look them up at Fuji's website for their 2010 models.

If Nashbar doesn't have your size, Bikesdirect has several other sizes.

I called Nashbar. Seems to be a Mail Order based in Virgina. The Bike is shipped out of Hio, and the techy Guy was in NC. The Bike is mass produced in Tawian. Yet another Bike no longer made in USA.

Nashbar quoted me $626.00 OTD for the Bike shipped.

their 17 inch bike is Medium and would fit me at 5' 9'.

Not a bad deal ... Still looking at the Bad Boy 1.

Today, my local LBS wants $1590.00 for the Bad Boy 1 ... and the stem and handlbar is all one piece. That said, how could I change out the Bar and stem, if I desired to do that? And the BB1 is an agressive riding position and changing out the stem and/or handlbar does not seem possible ... That sucks.

The Trek FX 7.7, my LBS wants $2100.00 OTD.

Did you compare the measurements or only the name of the size. Different manufacturers have different sizing conventions and going by medium, large, etc is not a reliable way to choose.

What size Trek and Cannondales did you ride?

If you read the reviews of that particular bike the advice is to go up one size. So for you I would go with the 19". I think it's literally a road bike frame which means the top tube is about 20mm shorter. So you don't have to worry about the reach being too long when sizing up. I'm not sure if anybody has any 19" frames left but it's a hell of a deal for a carbon forked bike with full Shimano 105.

This bikesdirect full carbon hybrid is a hell of a deal too. Some assembly required though.

I've given up on the Trek 7.7 and the FX line because it's just to expensive, for my budget ... And the Nashbar.com Fuji Absolute seems like a great deal for the money, and if the bike ends up being to small, I can always use the parts to build up another bike? Nashbar only has the 17 inch size, which they say is a Medium. I'm right at 30 inseam, 5 feet nine inches tall.

The Trek 7.7 FX was a large, for me, fit perfect. The Cannondale, I take a medium, in the Bad Boy 1.

Thx.

In that case you want the 19" Fuji. The 17 will be too small for you.

BTW, you see what I mean by manufacturers using different sizing conventions? The large Trek and medium Cannondale are the same size with very similar dimensions. The 19" Fuji size has dimensions similar to these two.

Hey Ray!

I've just got to say this! I simply can't contain myself, any longer.

Why do you even feel the need to have a suspended fork?

...You're in the city (on paved roads), mostly on flat land, and you're not even taking to the dirt roads or trails. So you've got a little gravel. As long as it not much gravel and still packed dirt or sand, you really don't have any concern there. Even most ordinary road bikes won't have a challenge, there!

If you're going to go Cannondale, test-ride the Quick SL1. Now that's a bike worth every penny of its cost! It comes with top-of-the-line componentry for a hybrid bike.

Otherwise, forget about what I've previously stated here altogether, and just go with the Fuji...

Just my little $00.02 rant

- Slim
