Weird sound?

Im still new to cycling, so my apologies if this is a stupid question.

I was riding very slowly on a trail with a lot of rocks, projecting up to 3" above the ground, and heard a loud noise, a sort of Sproing sound. Thought a spoke had broken, but everything was fine.
So, do wheels just make this noise, or was something bad going on?
The bike is a Motobecane 29" hybrid, 40mm tires, (32H DA17 DOUBLE WALL, Aluminum ALLOY, 700c) rims

Possibly a rock bounced up and hit your spoke after you ran over it!

Rocks bounce in strange ways, but if you hear the sound again, then it might be time to be concerned.
