better question is, which one fits you better. which bike shop is willing to go the extra mile to help adjust the bike to be a perfect fit? which bike shop just generally has the better vibes?

Good luck with this decision. I haven't been around a GT for a long time it seems, so I can only comment on the Giant Escape. I have an Escape 3 and think it is a great bike for the money. I compared it to a few other bikes and came back to it because of how freely it seems to roll on pavement, which is where I am riding more and more these days. I keep looking at the Escape RX and rode one three months after I got the Escape 3. The Giant line is something to look at if you can get a good local dealer to support it for you after the sale. I am not a bike doctor, so I need a bike shop to help me with proper fit, adjustment and tuning.

I bought a 2013 Giant Escape 3 last month and liked it so well that I went back a couple of weeks later and bought one for my wife. It's a wonderful ride for the price. I test rode a Trek and Specialized that cost twice as much, but the Escape felt more comfortable to me.

When I did my research for a road bike purchase, I discovered that Giant brand bikes generally offer more bike for the $; Specialized offers less. This may or may not be true for bikes across the entire spectrum. GT is not a brand mentioned very often here. The specs do look amazingly similar and the prices are nearly identical. Go ride them both and select the one that you like. Or purchase from the LBS that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. Many LBS provide some free tuneups after purchase. Personally, I'm partial to local run businesses rather than chain stores where the people are all employees.
Give up a pic and let us know how you like the bike you select.

Bikes: 2012 Giant Escape, 199? Specialized HardRock
Bought the 2012 Giant Escape 2 a few months ago and really like it. Took it in for its first free tune up with 250 miles on it and hung it up in the garage for the winter.

I am normally not a GT fan... but I picked one up for my son over the summer and he loves it. The components are good and the frame is light and the wheels are light. No compliants from him. It's as good as my fuji Absolute....
