Thule Trailway vs. Yakima double down
Installed a hitch on our SUV this weekend for the sole purpose of using it for a hitch mounted bike rack. Was excited to use the hitch so went to REI a and got to look at the way overpriced racks. Have a Dicks Sporting goods nearby and took a ride there. I've been looking at the Yakima Doubledown Ace 4 and Thule Vertex 4. Dicks had the Yakima but not the Thule. They did have a Thule model I've never seen before, the Trailway. It's not even on their website. May be one just built, or re-labeled for Dicks? Anyway it had two features that are must-haves for me. One is a switch to operate the tilt features of both the arms and rack itself vs a cotter pin mechanism. And two was anti sway attachments to keep the bikes from swaying and hitting each other. The Thule was $199 on sale and the Yakima $229 not on sale. I went with the Thule but the anti sway assembly definitely is weaker and more flimsy than the one on the Yakima. It does not hold the bike ultra still like the Yakima appears it would. The Yakima display u it in the store had anti sway assembly that seems rock solid. Any insight or experiences you can share? At this point I just feel the Thule anti sway assembly is not stiff enough vs. the Yakima. Thanks.
