DeVinci or Giant?

Hi all, I am hoping to get some advice and direction on a bike purchase!

I am deciding between a DeVinci St Tropez and a Giant Escape 2. Both women's models. I will be using it for commuting and some light to moderate touring. The folks at the shop said they were very comparable in terms of specs and fit. Any advice?

Thanks!

You really can't go wrong with either bike. They are both well equipped for basic cycling needs. All things being equal (fit, comfort, ride quality, components), for commuting and light touring, I would probably go with the bike that has the most factory attachment points for racks, fenders, etc. It's nice to just be able to bolt on your accessories instead of retrofitting.

May I ask why only 2 options? Have you looked at other brands/models in that price range?

Thanks for your reply! I was also looking at the specialized Ariel or Crossroads...not limited to my two initial pics, just trying to make the decision-making process easier! Would you recommend any other models/brands? I am hoping to spend less than $800...

The sales person probably missed a little something. The Women's specific frame in the Devinci comes in only one size. The Giant women's specific models come in several different sizes. IF the St Tropez women's specific frame just happens to be your size - no problem. Otherwise suggest you look at another brand. All the Devinci women's specific frames are apparently one size only.

Another Specialized model to look at is the Vita. My wife just bought one over the weekend andshe is very happy with it. Between the two comfort bikes she rode and that one, she felt that was the smoothest, yet sporty and nimble bike. She tried one with a front shock and felt it was too soft of a ride and hated it going up hill.

Pretty much any rigid bike will do. It gets down to comfort.
