I love it. Especially since I'm moving up from a 2009 Mako.
Sounds good! I really enjoy riding my 2014 8.2 I especially like all the little graphic details. Is your 8.5 also considered a Gary Fisher Series?

It is. This makes it the 4th GF I've owned, although two of them I sold quickly. This GF Collection DS is a keeper.

Yeah, I'll be hanging on to mine. Have you ever replaced a headset? If so, do you have a part number by chance? Thanks.

OK. Thanks. Yeah, my Trek Dealer has great employees. The headset I have works fine but I want sealed cartridge bearings. I'll may bring it in when I pick up the DS4.

Hi Guys, have any of you changed or attempted changing the outer chainring on crank of DS4? Would 48 fit? or 46 at least? I'm wondering if I can just swap the chainring for something bigger without having to change anything else. Sliding the FD up a bit should do it. Thoughts?

With the small chainring being a 28-tooth, a 46- or 48-tooth would be quite a jump for a single shift. I imagine you would be able to physically install it (on the crankset, adjusting the derailleur height, etc), but it may be difficult to get it tuned so that it shifts nicely. I guess it couldn't hurt to try, right? Chainrings are relatively inexpensive, and you'd otherwise be out only a little time.

Thanks hokiefyd, Yes that does sound like a big jump to make for the FD. I might end up changing the smaller one as well then lol. Will need to check if there is enough clearance for that as well.

I ended up using parts from a FSA Hammer. It was cheap and the bearings looked like what was in there. The bearings, seals and top bearing race fit just right. When I first opened it up, there was no top bearing race. Just a plastic dust cover. The stem spacer was all chewed up from digging into the top bearing. Now, the stem spacer has a metal surface to sit on were there was a plastic V ring. The best I can tell, somebody did a hack job on it with the cheapest VP headset they could find and left out some parts. I still have to redo it and replace the fork bearing race because it is chewed up a little. I know how to get it off but need to have a tool to press the new one on. Need a tool for the frame cups too. May hold off on that until I find a nice/economical cartridge type set. It always turned smoothly but I first dug into it because I wanted cartridge bearings and found a real mess. I want to replace the whole headset assembly eventually but need the right tools. Worst comes to worst, I'll take it in. That would probably cost less than the tools and be much easier. But, I love working on her. I'll talk to the shop guys when I pick up the new 4.

Just picked up this beauty a few weeks ago after not riding a bike in over 15 years (I'm 30, haven't owned a bike since I got my drivers license at age 16). I originally bought a Trek Marlin 5 and tried mountain biking but soon found out that I don't really want that as a hobby and riding alone out in the sketchy mountains of BC is dangerous, wasn't my cup of tea (plus the bike wasn't very good for what I was throwing at it, I would have to had upgrade to a full suspension bike and I didn't have the money).

I traded the Marlin 5 for a full carbon race/road bike. Soon realized that's too much bike for me, uncomfortable and while I loved the speed it wasn't what I wanted. I took that bike into my LBS and they did a straight trade for this DS2. Couldn't be happier. It was this or the FX3, but to be frank, I Really love having the option to have my suspension or lock it out. I don't care about weight at all. The bike is absolutely awesome, rides great and I keep it in the 2nd chainring up front and just shift through the cassette. Plenty of gears and fun for what I do, which is casually riding around town and to/from the gym.

To anyone on the fence about the bike- Buy it. This is a fantastic bike and it's VERY comfortable. I rode the FX3 and decided against it, the DS2 was much more comfortable and the stock saddle is actually GREAT. I returned my aftermarket saddle because the stock one was more comfortable.

While I agree about the bike and the ability to lock out the fork, I hated the stock saddle and just sold it on eBay. I got a Bontrager Boulevard saddle and it sits much better for my big butt.

My 2014 DS 8.2 Gary Fisher. Picked up the new DS 4 today. I'll have pictures tomorrow. Still getting it set up.

Awesome! What tires are those? I want to put those on my DS2, look like they roll very fast! From what I can read, continental grand prix? Are they 700x38c?

Those are Continental Grand Prix 4Season Black Edition. 700 X 32 The regular 4Season has a brown sidewall. They are great road tires for all year riding. (Not in snow. LOL) I never ride when the streets are wet. BTD has pretty good deals at biketiresdirect.com and they ship same or next day. I've bought a lot of tires from them.

Hey fellow DS guys. Was your fork pretty stiff when you first bought your DS? Mine is pretty stiff and I have it turned all the way down. I hope it's gonna loosen up. I wonder if the remote could be stuck on lock.

I decided to take the remote lockout apart. It was stuck in "lock". I don't like it and don't want lockout so I took it off. I put the cover back on but will look for a plain cover or non-remote lockout set up.

Don't remove the lockout, My advise is to go to your LBS and have them adjust/fix/tune for you.

That's the plan. However, they are 40 minutes away and I was there three times last week. I'll go when I have another reason.
