"General Black Shadow"? Help with Craigslist posting.
Hey all,
Looking around for a hybrid/mtb-ish winter bike and not sure what the deal is with this, anyone familiar with the model/brand able to gauge if it's a good deal or not?

https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/4805076877.html
Thanks.

I can only tell you that it is an older bike (based on the steel frame and cantilever brakes).
Based on the fact that it is a chromoly frame, it is probably a decent quality bike, but the brand name means nothing to me.
The gearing is probably 3x5, which may mean some larger gaps between gears... I don't know NYC prices well, but because I know your prices are pretty high for used bikes, it actually seems like the price is reasonable if the bike is in great shape and ready to ride. I would offer a lower price, just to see if there is any flexibility (maybe $130) But either way, at that price, it is probably a better bike than you could get for that price new.

Those look like 100/200GS components. That would place the components around 1990 and the price level was about $300 at the time. These are basic low end components with 7speeds and push-push shifters that broke fairly often. Theyre not very nice parts - plastic covered steel for the most part. I would look for something else. Vintage MTBs are cheap
Last edited by DorkDisk; 12-15-14 at 05:24 PM. Reason: Its probably not a full chromo frame. manufacturers were slapping the label on the only chromo tube (usually the seat tube.) Full chromo frames with 100gs components did not exist, IIRC
