Newbie Commuter from South Mississippi
Hey all!
Figured I'd go ahead and post up an introduction since I plan to spend a lot of time on the forums now.
I just recently made the decision to begin doing my short (2.5-3 mile one way) commute to work by bicycle. Luckily, almost all of the commute is on a paved MUP, with just the last half mile being on a two lane road that does have a bike lane. I know it's not much mile wise, but I'm super excited to begin commuting on a bike for the first time.
So, Saturday my wife and I both bought bikes at our LBS. I got a Giant Defy 5, brand new, with an uprgraded gel seat, but at a used price (the owner bought it with their significant other and returned it 3 days later when they broke up). And my wife got an older used Diamondback Outlook DX, which is perfect for her to ride with me on the weekends on the local MUP, since she doesn't plan to ride without me, and she just wanted to be comfortable.
Pictures of mine will come tomorrow after work, I haven't had a good chance to snap pics since I've been riding it this weekend! Plus I ordered the Defy specific fenders that should be in mid-week that I'll have my LBS install when they arrive.
Tomorrow will be my first time commuting, and I'm excited to go to work because of it! Won't let a Monday kill my eagerness.
Glad to be here, and I'm ready to start eating the miles on mine!

Yep! I use to ride motorcycles so safety has always been my first priority after comfort. Front and rear lights, and the helmet I got has a light on the ratchet system as well.
They are just battery operated, but I didn't wanna spring for the usb rechargeable ones right off the bat, figured I'd spread out the big ticket purchases.
