Old biker DIYer

Over 70 now but biking more than ever. Mainly doing tandem rides on rail trails. Dont like depending on bike shops that require me to haul my bike into town and park in a parking garage. They all tend to cater to the college kids which is their bread and butter. Some of my bikes are older than most college kids. The newest is our tandem and it is now over ten years old. Fixing it generally requires finding new compatible parts which can be tough. That is why I am joining this forum.

Welcome, from SE Wisconsin.

What advice would you give to a fellow thinking of trying a tandem bike with his wife?

I'll have to wait for her hip issues to be sorted out, I'm afraid.

I was looking at the Bike Friday tandems, as they break down for easier transport.

Just an opinion.
I would strongly recommend that you buy an inexpensive tandem first - for an honest eval if tandems are fun for both of you. That honest opinion will possibly only come after a number of rides of varying difficulty. I had back-up stokers so my tandem got a fair amount of use, but not enough to really justify what we spent.

Welcome to BF @rstone.
Most of my bikes are pre-1987, keeps Vintage meaningful regarding bike and rider.
But I like to ride vintage, modern, and even 1 e-bike.
Roll On!

I'm looking forward to your results. I'm recently retired and starting to bike with my wife.

Welcome from Atlanta GA.
